Fascinating to compare the 1 year growth of these two different top worked trees. The first image shows Sandford Jersey and the second Kimbolton (I think, but I was walking Freya). Where one has exclusively upright growth, the bushier habit of the Sandford is quite exciting and unusual!

In the Yew Tree Peterstow drinking a 2025 Foxwhelp. Kegged as a pΓ©t nat it's a beautiful cider. Vibrant and juicy, with beautiful floral aromas, strawberry notes and of course that refreshing, intense acidity. Find it at:
Fell NQ, MCR
The Old Shoe, Sheffield
Hereford Beer House

It's pretty wet out there.

Our first Ciderkin will debut at the Yew Tree, Peterstow, later this month!

There is a skip function but my wife disabled it. A highlight of the day to unexpectedly get to listen to Solar System in full. Phwoar

My song of 2026 is "Solar System" from the Travelling Songs Tonie. It's sung beautifully. It's also track 10 and I can't find it anywhere else online so getting to listen to it relies on my 19 month old daughter not replacing the player with her Peppa Pig audio story and resetting the progress.

It is, undeniably, a dry cider. There's no sugar here. But you really don't need sugar to have something be gloriously fruity!

It is the sweet flavour of apple long preserved and deepened by the magic of fermentation and maturation. With this variety there is often also notes of apricot, sweet pastry and balanced by the resolute bitterness.

If you drink one Ross-on-Wye this month it should be this 2022 vintage Bulmers Norman SV. It is, to me, a completely joyous cider. When the days are dark and wet, this cider is defiantly, gloriously fruity. In one glass, it is what bittersweet cider is meant to be!

Was lucky enough to be on the judging panel for this cider and it blew me away! An absolutely perfect Yarlington Mill S.V. - the character of the variety captured at perfect ripeness and fully expressed.

Sorry folks, in the name of education, we're going to be closed on 15th July as The Ciderologist, Gabe Cook hosts the Cider Association's Certified Cider Professional training, both for our team & some other lucky peeps.

Maybe some of the attendees will go on to become fully fledged Pommeliers πŸ€”

A particularly fun cider. We bottled half and kept half, and now, solera style, we've blended in some 2023 vintage. New edition comes out at end of August!

A repost for Sunday readers.
A fascinating look at how a country reacted to a new threat to their fruit industry. While the UK had fireblight as a reportable disease since the 1950s, it seems those support networks have been forgotten, growers starting from scratch as it spreads again in Britain.
