Isn't it interesting that both projects have fundamentally the same staff? But while you had an animation producer declaring he would keep the first season from becoming too idiosyncratic, the same no longer applies to this sequel. Making this is a more genuine, unfiltered work. Hardly conventional.

Your article is no exception to this. Worse than a one-sided portrayal of the previous project is the unsubstantiated mischaracterisation of the film as something less experimental, more conventional. A lack of mention of the respective directors' intentions, visions. Hasty conclusions are drawn.

Much of what is laid out in this piece raises the question of what constitutes “conventional” and “experimental” to you. A lot can be said about the rights and (plenty of) wrongs of the first season, but somehow there's a frequent vice for discussions tending to lean solely to one side or the other.

Stuff about Denmoku now that it's real & public: this is Not the project that was initially conceived, it has been rebooted. Some aspects make it quite obvious, like the fact that it's Minoru Ota's series direction debut, the shift in the setting, and the new subtitle. Fortunately, it looks great!
