Starting today, families receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) will see an increase in child support passthrough payments from $150 to $200 per month.

Had such a great time celebrating at Fiesta DC this weekend to honor the rich culture and contributions of our Latino communities!

I was proud to celebrate the opening of the newly renovated Holt Building in Georgetown, which will house several Black-owned businesses including V-Tech Solutions, which just marked its 25th anniversary!

Our locally owned businesses play a critical role in supporting our local economy and providing job opportunities for residents.

DC is on top of it when it comes to keeping our residents and visitors safe.

I have passed two comprehensive public safety legislative packages that have helped continue to drive down crime in the District and I am working on next steps to see more sustained safety across our city.

The Congressional Black Caucus legislative week has officially kicked off! It’s critical for lawmakers, advocates, and community leaders to come together to identify strategies to create opportunities that empower Black Americans to thrive.

Thank you to everyone who turned out for the DACL town hall to weigh in on where the new center should be located!

That’s why I secured funding for a new Ward 2 Senior Wellness Center and established a task force that works with the community and the Department of Aging and Community Living (DACL) to identify a location for our new center!

We must be proactive to ensure seniors can thrive in our city. At every age, people have better health outcomes when we are socially engaged, physically active, and forging human connection.

DC government stands united in our belief and efforts to protect our ability to self govern and to stop dangerous overreach by House Republicans.

I’m back on the Hill today where Mayor Bowser, Chairman Mendelson, and Attorney General Schwalb will testify before the House Oversight Committee about our city.

This will act as a deterrent and make sure we have footage of criminal activity that happens here. Everyone in this neighborhood deserves to be safe and I will continue to monitor activity in this area and push for interventions that will be effective and sustainable.

Good public safety news: At our request, MPD has installed a new camera at the intersection of 12th and M Street NW in response to public safety concerns like drug activity and gun violence in this area.

Whether you are visiting from across the United States or live right here in the District, you deserve to be safe in a beautiful city we can all enjoy – and the best way to do this is through our local government.

We need the House to vote down these bills and I will continue to meet with members of Congress to educate them about how DC operates and urge them to vote against these measures.

From getting rid of our elected Attorney General to charging 14 year olds as adults, these bills undermine our city and our safety.

DC knows how to -- and deserves to -- govern ourselves. The House Oversight Committee advanced a series of dangerous and rushed bills that harm the District’s public safety ecosystem and undermine our right to self government.

I am inspired every day by neighbors who continue to fight for our city and for each other. Let’s keep fighting and working together to make our city safe for everyone and protect our right to self government.

The District is no longer compelled to direct our local police officers to provide services at the request of the President. The DC National Guard will remain deployed throughout the city until the end of November.

The District has faced a lot of challenges together over the last month and I am tremendously proud of my fellow Washingtonians who have made their voices heard. The presidentially declared emergency in our city is over.

It was my honor to present a Ceremonial Resolution on behalf of the Council to honor our first responders and our Fire & EMS Department. We thank you for your continued service to our community and we will never forget those we lost 24 years ago.
