❗And it’s not just France. The European Union, with its new EU–India trade agreement, also seems to be prioritising strategic and economic cooperation over human rights.
So, if human rights are truly a “shared value” between EU and India, should not they be visible in action, not just words?
❗When questioned about the violations of human rights and deterioration of democracy under the Modi government, the Elysée avoids the issue. ‘We speak with one voice with India. We make clear the importance that France attaches to pluralism and respect for rights,’ they told the media.
19.02.2026 12:59 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Speaking on a radio programme, geopolitical journalist Pierre Hasky described Modi's political drift, as "authoritarian and Hindu nationalist", which "contrast sharply with India's image as ‘the world's largest democracy’".

Another major French daily, Libération, noted that “the issue of human rights was conspicuously absent from this visit,” highlighting a crackdown on minority rights, particularly Muslims, who are systematically targeted by the Modi government.

French MP Thomas Portes stated: “Emmanuel Macron's international policy disregards human rights, repressive laws and the massacre of minorities.”, adding that Modi pursues “an identity-based and nationalist policy” widely documented by NGOs.

As reported by Mediapart, the programme made “no mention of human rights and the protection of minorities,” despite repression of opposition groups and visible democratic backsliding in India.

The French-India 'strategic bromance' was also noted by several French media outlets, highlighting the absence of human rights or minority protection in the official programme.

❗️French President Emmanuel Macron made a state visit to India, celebrating an ‘accelerating’ strategic partnership ‘without limits’.
The agenda, emphasised strategic, economic, business and technological cooperation, with human rights and democratic principles completely absent from the discussions.
✊🏾Yesterday, many people gathered at the Press Club to celebrate Umar Khalid's words and courage.

Love should never be a battleground, and no one should fear for their safety because of who they choose to be with.
❗Love jihad is an attack on women and their right to choose their partner. Online smears quickly escalate into real-world intimidation, violence, or forced separation. Doxxing polices love, weaponizing personal data and public shaming to enforce communal boundaries.
17.02.2026 10:48 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0💌 Valentine's Day is globally celebrated as a day of love. Yet in India under BJP-RSS, it has increasingly become a site of surveillance, moral policing, and communal violence. What should be a day for love, warmth, and freedom to choose who we love has now been overshadowed by violence and fear.
