Ooh, one final thought: a disadvantage of sim-subbing that’s easy to forget is that you lose the opportunity to revise your work in line with feedback from other markets (or just your own evolving style). Sim-subbing gets your work out quickly, but it also “burns” markets quickly

The exception is if a “unicorn” market opens up suddenly and I have something I really want to send them that’s already out on sub elsewhere. That doesn’t happen often though.

In practice I rarely simsub as it makes it more complicated to keep track of things. I generally have at least half a dozen stories “on the go” at once and there are always markets opening and closing and responses coming in and it’s just easier to keep to one story-one market at a time.

I suppose I see it as kind of an unofficial contract? You say no simsubs and you’ll get back to me in x days, I’ll stick to the no simsubs bit if you stick to your promised timeline.
