Can we stop having menu screens at fast food chains CONSTANTLY CHANGING while the customer is trying to read them? There's got to be a better way.

My 3yo had a half day at preschool, and I'm trying to get him to nap so I can wrap presents. He naps every day at preschool, how hard can it be?

So far, in the last hour, he has called me upstairs to tell me:

1. Swim away from the sharks

2. I want Pikachu socks for Christmas

3. Who is Snoopy?

A key asymmetry of this era of American politics and how it’s covered is that Trump is expected to do bad and corrupt things, so when he does it barely qualifies as news. But Dems are expected to be beyond reproach, so anything that seems even slightly suspect is a huge scandal.

I'm crocheting, baking, getting out into nature. Oh, and reading. Like actual books! It's been years...

I'm old enough to remember four whole months ago, when SO MANY people were complaining that "I would like SOMEONE to vote for besides two old white guys!" And then when suddenly "someone else" turned out to be a black woman? Crickets.

I've been here about 24 hours, and so far it's a lot more photos of herons and foxes than I expected.

Never bothered to watch the other two. Think I'm due for a Hobbit re-read, though.

I think I watched the extended editions on DVD a year or so later, with a friend who loved them. Haven't watched them since.

Picked up The Hobbit in college, blazed right through it! Loved it. I've read it a couple of times since.

Saw the 1st Hobbit movie in theaters. Left very confused. 2 more!?

Then I would rent the first two movies before going to see the third in theaters.

It took me all three months to get through Fellowship. Slowest reading pace of my life up to that point. I then attempted to read Two Towers before giving up. Just went and watched the movies. I enjoyed them fine.

I was an AVID reader in high school, and I read Fellowship right before the third movie came out. I wanted to see the movies with the books already in my brain, because the book is always better (I firmly believed at age 18). My plan was to read one book a month, with three months to go.

I've been finding myself revisiting old hobbies, since all of my passion and drive for the current hobby suddenly left me last Wednesday. I'm reading again, I'm crocheting, I'm baking. Might take up watercolor painting. Going to volunteer at the local animal shelter. I'm keeping my head above water.
