Please go see this play by Melanie Tait. It’s the story of how Molly died in A Country Practice. I never watched ACP but that didn’t matter. Jokes. Sadness. Our lives as audiences. So great. I took this terrible photo of the cast - so go see them in real life. 😍 www.ensemble.com.au/shows/how-to...

The art of constructive debate is lost on our politicians who snipe at each other without a care in the world all the while condemning social cohesion to a distant memory.
If they’re ever agreeing they’re colluding to stitch up the country. #auspol

03.09.2025 00:13 — 👍 34 🔁 18 💬 2 📌 2“This new US Department of Energy Report is a travesty for US scientific integrity. It reads like a list of common climate skeptic tropes - long ago rebutted by the scientific community - being rehashed by a group of disgruntled scientists. The team of authors, hand-picked by Chris Wright, is a "who's who" of the 20th Century climate skeptic community. The report contradicts scientific conclusions reached by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and also previous high-level scientific reports on climate change released by the US Government.” - Dr. Ryan Katz-Rosene
“My large-scale thoughts are that this was a fantastic response to a total disgrace. I remember feeling so shocked and appalled when I saw the original report and feeling completely at sea with respect to what to do about it. Seeing many of my role models in the field come together to put together a coherent response to something so disjointed and incoherent was really inspirational and made me remember why I got interested in this field.” - Dr. Lucas Vargas Zeppetello
“One of my papers was cited in the DOE report that claims that greenhouse gas emissions have had "little-to-no effect on heatwaves" for the US. Wait, what? The backstory: after the record-smashing 2021 heatwave in the Pacific Northwest, we aimed to understand its likelihood, given that 115F temperatures in Portland, OR were not on anyone's bingo card. These days, any weather event can be viewed as some combination of a changing climate and day-to-day weather variability. In the case of heat, the influence of greenhouse gas-driven warming is so established that we first removed the climate change signal from the data, and then analyzed the probability of the observed temperatures occurring given the overall warming that has occurred in the region during early summer, which has been nearly 3 degrees Fahrenheit since 1960. Unfortunately, the intentionally misleading nature of the DOE report is due to its role as a building block towards the goal of rescinding a 2009 finding from the EPA that greenhouse gases cause a threat to human health and welfare. Luckily, there is time to take action: comment on the report, and contact your representatives to let them know we need to take action to bring back the tolerable summers of years past.” - Dr. Karen McKinnon
“The DOE report is bad. The entire report misrepresents the evidence available for several key topics whilst ignoring some topics entirely (e.g. coral bleaching events). It contains many examples of basic errors, cherry-picking, logical fallacies, and poor scholarship. I would read a claim and think "that doesn't sound quite right", so I would look up the study cited only to find that the claim was even more flawed than I first suspected. The more I looked at the DOE report, the more problems I found. Many of the points the DOE report attempts to make rely on out-of-date or incomplete datasets. There are several recent and detailed reviews and analyses that are not even cited by the DOE report, let alone discussed. There is a lot of lying by omission. Parts of the DOE report resemble the same oil lobby (evidence-free) narratives that climate change deniers have been repeating again and again for over two decades even when faced with extensive evidence to the contrary. Even undergraduate students, whether they are studying earth sciences, physics, or marine biology, should be able to identify many errors and misunderstandings in the 2025 DOE report. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if the 2025 DOE report became widely used as an example of bad science for university tutorials. I learnt a lot whilst putting together my contributions as well as seeing what others wrote. It was great working alongside so many accomplished and thoughtful climate scientists. The whole process was very well communicated and organised, particularly considering that everyone was doing this work in their spare time. And, because I am based in the UK, I feel less threatened by retaliation and can critique the many errors in the DOE report more freely than scientists based in USA. This 2025 DOE report does not evaluate the extensive available evidence in good faith. It should be viewed as an attack on science in general, not just an attack on climate science. I suspect, in 14 years' time (after…
Absolutely blistering takedown of the US government's mad climate report that rehashes the worst denier tropes of the past decade.
US gov't took on a handful of self-serious denier micro-celebs, and in doing so, basically just hugely owned themselves in public

In contrast, not once have I heard the Palestine rallies called anti-genocide or anti-colonial. I wonder what that's about 🙄

1. Publicized impeachments of Trump's crank cabinet such as Kennedy.
2. DAILY pressers explaining today's clear & present danger.
On one hand, reducing car use reduces urban pollution.
But on the other, everyone likes it and cities become more livable
The assault on expertise is driven by an agenda to place uniformed, ill-conceived, often politically-motivated antiscience from charlatans on an equal footing with scientific consensus.
