By my third go, I decided to attempt a poetry response to the ad (I must have been delirious after two streams). I bring it up because as with any prompt you go along with the creative vibes.

Today's prompt was to take a news story and move it to a sci-fi setting. I used the American Eagle Sydney Sweeney ad.

I care that the ad is blatantly spewing Nazi shit but as someone who didn't shop there to begin with and wasn't a Sydney Sweeney fan the effect on my life is low.

I think this form of poetry is particularly ripe for social and political commentary. Which is something my writing in the last year has focused on. I am grateful to have my art to help me cope with the world around me.

I've never done a blackout poem but it and found document poetry in general fascinates me. It seems like a slightly more accessible form of poetry but as I found out while responding to this prompt it was a struggle to communicate through someone else's words.

Try & make strong choices for each character's POV. Is one new teen driver? Or a finance bro going to a big mtg? Or a new parent w a baby in the car? Or an elderly driver? Maybe the 2nd character is just a bystander. Making clear choices will allow you to write w distinct voices for each version.

Here's today's prompt. It's a two part-er. While on stream we write the first part for 15 minutes and the second part for another 15 minutes (give or take me having to stop my dog from eating my earpods 😫), but ofc write for as long as you like.
