Newsom defends extending Diablo Canyon

"I kept the lights on by extending CA’s last nuclear plant β€” 9.5% of our baseload. It’s absolutely critical moving forward if we’re going to help decarbonize. It’s the only path I see to get us where we need to go moving forward."

My thoughts after reading this article.

1. Nuclear isn't & has never been our enemy.
2. Energy use is not harmful, fossil fuels are.
3. The focus on nuclear & its "waste" problem is odd when we still receive 40% of our electricity from fossil fuels.
4. Diablo should operate for the full 20 years.

Great article! But worth noting: CA still gets 40% of its electricity from natural gas (fossil fuel), & the 2020 rolling blackouts, not data centers, led to Diablo’s extension. This well-built, 24/7 clean-energy asset isn’t a relicβ€”it’s built to last. The extension was the best thing Newsom has done.

RESTART THE REACTORS & STOP THE NUCLEAR PHASEOUT

I can't believe we are living in a time where developed, rich countries are shutting down existing clean energy generation when the world is trying to limit CO2 emissions and keep the lights on.

Make it make sense.
