This is a good piece, but the attacks on Dorothy Bain are not the only recent example of attempts to undermine trust in the legal system for political gain, and the press and others who have been insinuating wrongdoing on the flimsiest of evidence are also complicit.

21.02.2026 23:24 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Definitely. I'm working on eleven procurements at the moment, and about nine of those customers want to do the right thing. The other two procurements I am having to deal with those unintended consequences. I find it uncomfortable at times, but that's where I'm learning the most.
21.02.2026 23:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0That makes sense. Many of my colleagues with similar experience say the same thing. I've only been in the industry for five years (previously spent fifteen years in public sector HR), so I'm not quite there yet.
21.02.2026 22:52 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It doesn't happen very often. I find most of my customers are grateful for my help and are happy that I keep them on the right track with establishing a compliant contract. It's a bloody great job. π€
21.02.2026 22:25 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Every year I have to do mandatory procurement process training and every year Iβm profoundly glad I have skilled colleagues who specialise in this stuff so I donβt have to. Itβs all about accountability and delivering that reliably is about process which has to be properly designed; none of it easy.

The FT Palantir piece was certainly a challenge to write, but worthwhile I think.
I agree. It's a technical profession. I begin every public contract inception meeting by explaining why we do what we do. It usually helps, but some customers just want their contract in a week or two. I was told early on to always cover myself, which has proven invaluable when my advice is ignored.

Would much rather be out enjoying the weekend.
Feels like an uphill battle.

It wasnβt immigrants that hollowed out the high street, but government policy, supermarkets and Amazon.
On mine, the bankβs closed, the butcherβs gone, the Post Office has shut, and the opticians has disappeared.
Now itβs mostly charity shops, bookies and barbers β nothing like it was.
