We needed an overhaul to save our planet, and, decades later, it's still cars everywhere you look. Riding a bike is still a dangerous proposition. Here in Burnaby, all I've got is shared street bikeways. It was all just talk. There will be no overhaul. No adoption of bikes en-masse. I give up.

I'm pro-vax, but it's indeed a fact that the mRNA vaccines have shortcomings. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Car-free is fantastic. Car-free with plants and trees and water fountains, and all the stuff that makes people really want to relax there, which you can't do when it's temporary, is better.

I went to Bellingham last fall for Novavax. It's an entirely separate scandal they didn't bring that into Canada last year, given this... www.nature.com/articles/s41...

My elderly mother in Calgary, who has cancer, was just telling me yesterday that she's seeing more people in her community getting Covid and can't find a pharmacy to get her shot updated. This explains that. Fuck every last UCP voter in that shit province.

At this point I almost want "Idaho Stop" laws less for the personal *convenience* as a cyclist, and as much for the formal *recognition* that "these two things, cars and bikes, do NOT represent the same dangers, and should not be governed by the same rules".

Motorists love to pretend like scofflaw cyclists are a danger to motorists. Like they'll have to swerve their car to miss the cyclist, and are at major risk to life and limb due to a car accident when they're forced to do that. I'd love to see numbers on that, cuz, yeah, no.

"We need to ramp up the standards for road tests and train people to be better drivers"

No amount of training will ever fix this.

There's too many skills. Too many variables. It's all just too much, too fast. It's beyond human capacity.

No, cars are a bad model. We need a better one.

Yes, we've spent a lot of money on SHITTY housing and SHITTY treatment and SHITTY reactionary measures. We've never provided any GOOD help, just a lot of HELP THEATRE. Involuntary Care is just more SHIT that won't fix the root issues. We never really do ๐Ÿ™„

First time I got it was NYE 2019. Didn't know fallout was Long Covid for two years. 2 more infections later (despite masking), what started as sore lymph nodes has destroyed my neck resulting in dysautonomia, cerebral venous outflow stenosis, and borderline craniocervical instability. Fuck Covid.

I want societal concern to be aligned with actual data on damage done. Cyclists are overwhelmingly the ones dying, and constantly taking shit from everyone for pointing that out.

I love the diagrams here! This is the situation in so many places around the world, where cars can go from A to B most directly, with one or two turns, but cyclists are relegated to using a GPS/map to navigate some convoluted back route requiring 25 turns.

Judging by the behaviour on our roads, getting a driver's license needs to be ten times *more* involved than it is now, not less.

I spent my vacation yesterday in lovely Soulac-sur-Mer, France, where the main street through town next to the beach has been allocated 50% to pedestrian sidewalks (w trees), 25% to a bidirectional bike lane, and 25% to a single unidirectional car lane ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿฅฐ
