I have worked in both state and private schools. I was the same teacher. The difference is that private schools have better resources, more PPA, more parent and classroom support etc.

State school teachers are doing an amazing job and with far less.

The β€˜human’ aspect of teaching is so drastically under appreciated. I cringe every time I hear someone say that AI can replace teachers.

But I guess that the same with any profession seen as a caring one. It diminishes the importance of those skills and ensures pay is suppressed.

School exclusions have risen by a fifth in England.

These are children who were born into austerity and then hit with COVID. When schools were screaming that their students needed more mental health and emotional support, they were told to return to business as usual.

Is anyone surprised?

The abolishment of the one-word ranking system from Ofsted should be celebrated.

But surely I can’t be the only one waiting anxiously for the full details of its replacement?

Hopefully it will involve more listening and collaboration with schools!🀞🏻

Not really a failure when this was the intention.

But it only affects women so… why bother researching it properly?

At least this article points to a positive change in the future.

Ah, it’s alright for proofreading… in the UK though, you do have to give it a β€˜leave the spellings as British English’ prompt!

Earlier, I was reminded of something a year one child said to me very early in my career.

β€˜Miss, are you married?’
β€˜No.’
*Thoughtful face* β€˜Well, if you wear make-up then you would get married.’
β€˜β€¦β€™

(Paraphrased slightly, it was over a decade ago!)

So the happiness of UK 15-year-olds is the lowest in Europe, with girls and disadvantaged groups being particularly affected.

It is upsetting, but is anyone actually surprised?
