Something in the water I guess.
07.12.2025 10:03 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0You're reading fewer papers which leads you to understand less about your subject/field and worsen your ability to sort through the pre-chewed gruel (and fake shit) served up by LLMs. You get worse at what you are trying to get better at.
07.12.2025 10:03 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Oh that's a good suggestion.
07.12.2025 09:31 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Having just come from "A Very Die Hard Christmas" tonight at Seattle Public Theatre, I can confirm (in exhausted GenX). www.seattlepublictheater.org/current-prod...
07.12.2025 09:31 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Because you are not doing the cognitive work of reading and understanding the edges of your subject and tangential but important contextual information. You are not learning what are useful and less useful sources. You are not learning to follow information trails yourself.
06.12.2025 23:09 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Those stories about Washington's troops marching in rags and nearly starving to death happened in part b/c industry & agriculture was so thoroughly disrupted, plus no one could earn or pay any money so the economy was at a near-standstill. Not b/c it they didn't know not to starve and freeze.
06.12.2025 23:06 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Which does not promote learning in the same way, or help you develop mastery of a subject, or research skills.
Again: pre-chewed food.
They're showing the set of Monika Treut short films that include CP and Annie Sprinkle at SIFF next weekend, so I literally thought about her for the first time in ages yesterday, and now here she is again. Like a bad smell. nwfilmforum.org/films/female...
06.12.2025 23:02 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Oh god so many boring and frustrating conversations with men on exactly this topic....
06.12.2025 22:59 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0No it will invent papers you're looking for.
And you ignored my point: sorting through links to determine which are useful is PART OF MASTERING A SUBJECT AND THE SKILLS OF RESEARCH.
Lord I did not realize "parent myself" was going to be the main item on my adult to-do list. What the HELL.
06.12.2025 22:24 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0So you're saying Star Trek is... The Matrix.
06.12.2025 22:23 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0"Jesus wept."
06.12.2025 20:58 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It's an extremely stupid way to try to address the need to manage multiple relationships ethically, and makes it clear who wrote the last Code revision. Hopefully they'll make better choices in the next one.
06.12.2025 20:54 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Anybody thinking they're excited for civil war would be thoroughly disabused of that notion by watching "The American Revolution" on PBS. But of course they're never going to watch anything on PBS, let alone learn anything from history.
06.12.2025 20:53 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I turned on the setting that scolds me if I don't do it which I occasionally resent but is a good way of binding Future Me who is sometimes very lazy.
06.12.2025 20:46 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Officials, organizers, and staff: famously all-female in the world of gaming
06.12.2025 20:45 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Our boobies get in the way of our controller use.
06.12.2025 20:44 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Oh, you know the ones.
It's never about white cishet Christian people.
Anybody rolling up in here saying "post-scarcity society" - there's always someone who doesn't bus their lunch tray, somebody has to unclog the drains now and then, and are we just teleporting dust and hairballs out of the corners of the rooms? We are NOT.
06.12.2025 20:42 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0You may know this - NASW's Code of Ethics at one point said if you have relationships in a community, maybe you can't see clients in that community. Absolute madness and horrifying from the perspective of minority clinicians.

06.12.2025 20:34 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Did we ever see who empties the trash bins and does the laundry in Klingon society? I feel like that's missing from my Trek lore.
06.12.2025 19:56 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 3 π 0Thank you South Park.
06.12.2025 19:27 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Reading through results to discern which ones are most relevant/helpful is part of the learning and mastery process.
Preferring LLM results is like preferring to have your food pre-chewed so you don't tire your jaw muscles out.
You've gotten good answers by now, but I wanted to note that there's a difference between "has a 'handle' plus a userpic and bio even if they're not giving personal details" vs. "has the auto-assigned icon, has not created a 'handle' or filled out bio at all." The latter are more likely bad actors.
06.12.2025 19:04 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Relatable.
06.12.2025 19:01 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Super fun to be a therapist who is simultaneously told "you must not let clients see your personal life" and "you must build a public-facing brand."
I used to be ultra-careful about having two separate accounts for everything. I've somewhat given up at this point. But it's still a problem.
Thank you! I only have age-related presbyopia but was trying to read it late at night and too tired to find my reading glasses. π΅
