35. Gradius II — This PC Engine (Turbografx) port is superb, for my money the best classic Gradius experience a person can have. My hope is the upcoming Gradius Origins collection from Konami has this on there, because more people should get to enjoy this absolute banger.

Illegal touching is sort of silly and pointless, honestly. Let’s get rid of that one.

Giving the offense an automatic first down on a minor defensive infraction like holding is also too stiff. 5 yards is enough.

Holding on the offense shouldn’t be enforced if it doesn’t affect the play. No harm, no foul, amirite?

The “catchable” part of pass interference makes no dang sense. Wouldn’t it still be defensive holding 9 times out of 10, which doesn’t require a pass to be catchable? The “catchable” thing should apply to both PI and holding or neither, not just one. Or else call holding when the ball in uncatchable

Welcome to my penalty TED talk. Illegal block in the back is generally a killer already, often wiping out a big play. It really doesn’t need to be a 10-yard penalty on top of that. That’s just rubbing salt in. Make it 5.

34. Super Mario Party — Let me just say this: no game will put your kids into a controller-flinging rage faster than Mario Party will. In the same way your luck in this game is randomized, willingly engaging with this may or may not turn your child into a raving lunatic. Proceed with caution.

I’ve got Superman over Thunderbolts, but it being a close call is such a relief because it means we ate okay this year. Hopeful about FF.

33. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (NES) — The friggin’ dam ain’t that hard, people. It’s all about team management. (Swap turtles before you die.) Anyway, I like the strategy and maze-like aspects to this game. It holds up reasonably well for those reasons.

1) Battlefront 2 (ps2)
2) Super SW (snes)
3) Dark Forces (pc)
4) SW Trilogy (arcade)
5) KOTOR (Xbox)

I think that’s a show for sure - a discussion on that game and how meaningful it is to people, but also, about games aging.

The best bits for me were all the dialogue choices, which reminded me of an old LucasArts game in a way.
