Two things can be true. It's not one or the other, but both. The Dodgers are villains with respect to their spending and more specifically their machinations to avoid luxury tax. The Cubs do not reinvest their profits fully back into the team. BOTH are bad for baseball.

You are 100% accurate on the Cubs' move here being bad for baseball. However, I disagree (strongly) on whether it is worse for baseball than the Dodgers. I don't see much daylight between levels of degradation to the sport as a whole between the two. I have issues with the Dodgers modus operandi.

Yes. Ohtani would not have lasted long enough as a pitcher to accomplish this feat had they not added the Ohtani rule. Dizzy had to stay in the game as a starter long enough to get the at bats from the 9th spot in the batting order. To my mind, it somewhat lessens the accomplishment a wee bit.

The three signed & numbered prints that make up Michael Whelan’s original Passage to Sanctuary series. They were printed using a new (at the time) digital process, and the files were destroyed after the limited production run. The individual pieces were titled (from left to right as pictured) Landing, Path’s End, and Arrival.

Back in the mid ‘90’s, being a huge fan of michaelwhelan.bsky.social, I signed up for a set of limited edition prints by him named Passage to Sanctuary. For the past 30 years, they have brought that special MW feeling of wonder into our home daily. I thought it was past time to say thanks. (#52 btw)
