The CP-140 Aurora was built for the RCAF by Lockheed and differed from their standard P-3 Orion. As well as maritime surveillance duties, the Aurora, particularly in its upgraded CP-140M form, is capable of intelligence gathering, anti-terrorism sorties and other tasks. Standing on the concrete at RAF Fairford, it was an impressive addition to the static line up at this international air show. No 407 had been one of the Article XV RCAF units formed during WW2, and assigned to the operational control of the RAF. Five of these Canadian Squadrons were given to RAF Coastal Command during the War, and No 407 (motto, 'To Hold On High') initially used Lockheed Hudsons in the 'strike' role, then Vickers Wellingtons to hunt German U-Boats. On return to Canada after the war, it converted to the Canadian-built version of the Avro Lancaster.

Carrying on the Canadian theme - here's a Lockheed CP-140M Long Range Patrol aircraft of No 407 LRP Sqn, 19 Wing, RCAF at RIAT.
