They ask to know
What’s in our head
They make us sleep
In bolted down beds
We are medicated
And satiated
And challenged to grow
Everything
we know we don’t know
To give us reason
To undo our end
To give us hope
And life to spend
They hold us tight
In our first night
And slowly let go
To let us fight

Winter’s white
On green growth
Icy hush
On creaking bones
A skeleton of summer
Poised in pose
Ready to rise
At the end of repose
