Drop by poster 3048 today at #ECNP2025 and discuss the findings with the first author and presenter, Gudrun Dilja Ketilsdottir, and me.

A brain test may predict antidepressant-related sexual problems, early research suggests | CNN Early research suggests a brain test may predict whether antidepressants will cause sexual dysfunction. There has never been a way to predict this effect.

I follow the logic, but when I offer psychotherapy, I am not sure my patients would appreciate me framing it as a โ€œpublic healthโ€ or โ€œsocial intervention.โ€
Nonetheless with regards to public health and the practice of medicine, there is more than just pharmaceutical interventions.

The paper provides comprehensive age and gender-stratified norms for all scales. ๐Ÿ“จWrite to me for the paper (it is paywalled, sorry) doi.org/10.1080/080...

๐Ÿ˜ท ๐Ÿ˜ŸImportant notice: Recent Danish SCL-10 norms from 2020 during the COVID lockdown show unusually high distress levels. This data from an abnormal period isn't suitable as a population norm. I recommend using the gender-specific 2000 norms. #COVID19 #Psychiatry

โ™€๏ธโ™‚๏ธ Gender differences are significant: Women score higher on SCL-10 in the general population and even more pronounced in depression patients. Using non-gender-specific targets risks under-treating men and setting unrealistic goals for women. #GenderMedicine

I validated two proposed 6 & 9-item #ADHD symptom scales from the SCL-90R. While they show good internal consistency (ฯ‰>0.8), they borrow items from anxiety scales ("Feeling tense"). So, the gender differences we found might reflect anxiety, not ADHD. ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿ“Š BSI scales are shorter versions of SCL-90R, measuring symptoms from anxiety to psychoticism. They're just as reliable as the full version - and now have Danish norms! Consider switching if you're still using the long version. #ClinicalResearch

In my new paper in the Nordic Journal of Psychiatry, I provide gender and age-stratified Danish mental health norms for clinical scales: Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI-53, BSI-18), ADHD scales, and SCL-10. doi.org/10.1080/080... ๐Ÿ‘‡

Exactly what we thought when we started this project. We hope we have stopped this research avenue and can use our efforts collectively better elsewhere.

Loudness dependent auditory evoked potentials and suicidality in depression โ€“ A meta-analysis with replication in unmedicated patients Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is a risk factor for suicide. Loudness-Dependent Auditory Evoked Potentials (LDAEP) is an electroencephalographic biomโ€ฆ

๐Ÿ’ก Conclusion:
LDAEP is not useful as a biomarker for suicide research or prevention in MDD. We need to look elsewhere for approaches to identifying high-risk individuals.

For LDAEP, we found:
โŒ No association with and past suicide attempts.
โŒ No correlation with suicidality.
โŒ No association with suicidality during 12 weeks after EEG.
This held true across the meta-analysis, in the independent cohort, and in the updated meta-analysis.

We analysed whether LDAEP was associated with:
1๏ธโƒฃ Past suicide attempts
2๏ธโƒฃ Current suicidality in patients with MDD
๐Ÿ“ถ Preregistered meta-analysis: 10 studies
๐Ÿšน Independent cohort: 88 unmedicated MDD patients followed for 12 weeks; preregistered analyses.
