That makes a lot of sense, thank you! These were indeed a very old-looking pair of pants, and the stitching looked like it had been done over more than once

I appreciate the explanation but this was not basting. My grandfather was a tailor, I sew and I have thrifted menswear for years now. I know what basting is. These were sewn in with a machine but quite irregularly, to the point where the fabric was damaged at points by the going-over of it.

I was sad that the dress pants I'd thrifted didn't have pockets and then I felt pocket lining... and uneven stitching. What kind of damaged soul sews pockets shut?

Academic publications, like @nature.com, put out so many articles, many of which are lost in the volume BUT this one is worth reading & amplifying. In general, #AI makes me queasy but this one leaves me gravely worried about the future of #academia.

2/2 by trying to be 'cool' and hyper-empathetic teachers, parentifying themselves, micro-managing and assuming teens cannot exercise agency.

Maybe it's just my autistic approach to socialisation but I think students are not used to being treated like people and the suddenness of it overwhelms them

If I may, I've observed from conversations with undergrads that they expect and want to be babied a whole lot and there's a gender bias there (if a man is strict, they don't mind, but they read strict women as mean/bossy/unrealistic)

I think their high school teachers do them a disservice 1/2
