Ok, as promised, Let's do a short 🧡 on glucose monitoring in athletes without diabetes. It's for all y'all who have been buying these monitors and then coming in to see us, freaking out because you think you are diabetic. Check out this data from Marliss et al. (1990). Yes, *1990*. (1/4)

Definitely feel that! All those things that you listed (plus all the paperwork and hoops to go through to even get to recruitment) don't make it into the write up!

We're project managers, subject matter experts, communicators and possess hands-on skills, all in one!

Yeah very keen to do an episode about actually undertaking research, and have a few guests in mind too!

Ensuring a high quality hot water immersion experience for a participant.

Data collection almost wrapped up - it's been a full on but very fun 3 months, and I've definitely learnt a few things about the reality of data collection!

Having administered CO rebreathe myself, there's certainly a lot of steps (if using a machine like the detalo) to get a minimal performance benefit.

Seems like the UCI and some "journalists" would rather scare monger CO than investigate actual doping or other shady practices in pro cycling!

How accurate and precise are handheld blood lactate analyzers?

Raincloud plots illustrating the relative difference between four commonly used handheld analyzers and the Biosen C-line stationary analyzer.

Pretty (and) informative?

The Physiology of Endurance Running Podcast Podcast Β· Dan Nash and Owain Zerilli Β· This podcast is all about getting sport science research out into the public domain. We cover what we do and don't know regarding all topics related to enduranc...

It's not often you get to hear the ups and downs of training from a 2:15 marathoner, with a full time job and a young child. We hopefully apply some science to the discussion, as well as standalone episodes on sports science topics - check out the podcast! open.spotify.com/show/5Ve414Z...

A week to go to the Valencia Marathon, @dan-osborn-nash.bsky.social has undertaken his customary lab test - with positive results - has locked in his kit for race day, and is getting a haircut! Now just to run the race - this week's episode: open.spotify.com/episode/4U9g... #SportScience

Very true! Sometimes I think a "narrative appendix" could be included in journal papers that lets the authors talk/show how they did the research. The creative solutions that some very smart & practical people find to do the science could be as interesting as the results themselves (IMO)!

Last few participants in the bath over the next 2 weeks before it's time to analyse some blood samples. I'm always curious what the "hot water immersion" setup in studies looks like - I'm sure most are a bit more luxurious than ours (it gets the job done though)!

Hey Grace - would love to be added! Doing some work on hot water immersion and EPO!

In this episode we talk about Dan's last big session, and some last minute shoe testing in the lab - as well as our views on how to/how not to test shoes (put the lactate pro down!). We also discuss training programming. Hopefully a nice blend of physiology & actual training. Hope you enjoy πŸ˜€

Road to Valencia- 2 weeks to go The Physiology of Endurance Running Podcast Β· Episode

@dan-osborn-nash.bsky.social and I record a weekly episode on our podcast, detailing Dan's training before Valencia marathon - where he's targetting 2:12:30. With 2 weeks to go there's not much training left, but Dan still ran a lot of K's!

Would love to be on there - working my way into the profession but hoping for some interesting data soon about hot water immersion!

@dan-osborn-nash.bsky.social also worth including for loads of applied content from someone working with athletes every day!

Entering the last few weeks of data collection - lots of early mornings, long days & blood samples, and a lot of learning on my end about the reality of research!

Hoping to have some good data on the acute EPO response to hot water immersion to share soon!
