Daylighting is a street safety tool that clears curb space next to crosswalks and upgrades those spaces with community-centric infrastructure like benches, bioswales, and bus shelters. Daylighting ensures that drivers and people in crosswalks can see each other. (pic from @OpenPlans.org).

This year, the @nycprogressives.bsky.social achieved major investments in public safety, frontline workers and mental health services in our city.

With @nycspeakeradams.bsky.social support and the many advocates who informed our campaign, we’re moving our city from a state of crisis to one of care.

Together, these investments are a step toward a safer and more humane city. The items in the Crisis to Care budget campaign are just a first step. We will keep working to build safe, equitable, and compassionate public safety and mental health systems in future budgets.

We are proud to have gotten key wins:
❤️🩹 Baselined and expanded mental health response teams and peers
🏥 Won critical funding for syringe services
🏘️ Strengthened housing supports for domestic violence survivors
🚑 Started a mental health pilot program for EMS workers
