02.08.2025 16:30 β π 100 π 14 π¬ 0 π 1We Progressives will always stand firmly with street vendors and immigrant New Yorkers. We are eager to override this selfish veto, and to move forward comprehensive reform to street vending in our city.β (5/5)
31.07.2025 21:24 β π 24 π 3 π¬ 0 π 0This veto undermines our constituents' hard work and efforts of the Mayorβs own agency. The Mayor continues to put himself and his MAGA puppeteers in D.C. before the people of New York City. (4/5)
31.07.2025 21:24 β π 18 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0we condemn this mayoral veto in the strongest terms. Council Member Krishnanβs Introduction 47-B will allow street vendors to operate without the fear of arbitrary and heavy-handed criminalization, jail time, and immigration consequences. (3/5)
31.07.2025 21:24 β π 19 π 3 π¬ 1 π 0βBoth in action and in words, this Mayor continues to aid and abet the Trump administrationβs inhumane deportation machine. In an era when immigrant New Yorkers face unprecedented attacks and are disappeared from our communities by masked ICE agents on a regular basis, (2/5)
31.07.2025 21:24 β π 18 π 3 π¬ 1 π 0We issued the following statement condemning the mayor's MAGA move to veto the street vendor protection bill, Introduction 47-B
CM Shekar Krishnan's bill is a caucus priority that passed with 40 votes, including unanimous support from our members, on June 30 (1/5)
@CMJulieWon.bsky.social's bill bans street parking within 20 feet of intersection crosswalks in NYC and requires that the Department of Transportation install daylighting barriers at 1,000 intersection each year. Let's save lives and pass Intro. 1138 in 2025!
nycprogressives.com/about/priori...
Daylighting is a street safety tool that clears curb space next to crosswalks and upgrades those spaces with community-centric infrastructure like benches, bioswales, and bus shelters. Daylighting ensures that drivers and people in crosswalks can see each other. (pic from @OpenPlans.org).
30.07.2025 19:56 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0In 2024, traffic violence killed a New Yorker every 35 hours. Lives are on the line, which is why today, we're proud to announce the Progressive Caucus's endorsement of our member @cmjuliewon.bsky.social's lifesaving legislation - Intro 1138 - that calls for universal daylighting in New York City.

For 3 years, @nycprogressives.bsky.social & @council.nyc.gov have been fighting just to undo #EricAdamsβ cuts β to schools, libraries, CUNY, & more.
Now CMs say the process is broken & NYC needs to reform/rebalance it to serve/protect NYers & our $.

This year, the @nycprogressives.bsky.social achieved major investments in public safety, frontline workers and mental health services in our city.
With @nycspeakeradams.bsky.social support and the many advocates who informed our campaign, weβre moving our city from a state of crisis to one of care.
Together, these investments are a step toward a safer and more humane city. The items in the Crisis to Care budget campaign are just a first step. We will keep working to build safe, equitable, and compassionate public safety and mental health systems in future budgets.

We want to thank @VeraInstitute @PeoplesPlanNYC @CCITNYC and our coalition of elected officials, unions, advocates, and providers - we couldn't have done it without you. Despite the Mayoral administration's reticence, the Council secured over half of the dollars we sought.
