Oil is the most Lovecraftian thing that actually exists. You're telling me that there's a black ichor under the earth, made from the ancient dead, whose burning can realize all the dreams of man but only at the price of slowly returning the earth to its primordial state?

Alright so, A) we'll see how I feel on a rewatch but I am currently pretty mixed on GDT's NIGHTMARE ALLEY and B) I hate Criterion's propensity for weird packaging instead of just putting their discs in a case like a normal person, BUT this Thomas Ott artwork and design fucking rules.

Someone asked if I make any money off the blog.

No. I do not monetize the blog. No ads, no sponsorships, no Patreon. I do use Amazon affiliate links, but that's just to offset the cost of the books a little, really, and most months it doesn't pay out anything.

I'll be honest, I lost interest in GDT's FRANKENSTEIN when I learned it would be ignoring an integral part of the original novel.

Is it just my imagination, or does 1930's UK Captain Justice sound an awful lot like US Doc Savage?

Robert W. Chambers used Yellow Peril and antisemitic stereotypes in his fiction. Arthur Machen leaned in on anthropological anxiety, Turanians, and antiziganism. Lord Dunsany was your genuine Great White Hunter and wrote fiction about the "Colour Bar" in the United States.

Nobody is perfect.
