Your observations are spot on. I lived and cooked for many years in Garches, a suburb west of Paris. Itโs a different food culture. But not impossible to implement here where I live in the Hudson Valley. Congratulations on the book! Clear, concise, engaging, informative. Iโm about half way through.

A hunger cliff is days away. Women, children and food banks will feel it first.
Food banks will face logistical and financial challenges in providing the resources currently offered by the SNAP and WIC programs that are set to lose funding.
Food banks are stepping up as millions of Americans prepare to lose federal food assistance, but it may not be enough.

How well is #FoodAsMedicine holding up with scrutiny and actual data on outcomes. It turns out that itโs a mixed bag of diverse interventions with wildly variable effectiveness.

Obesity remains high in the US, but more states are showing progress, a new report finds
For the first time in more than a decade, the number of states with rates of obesity of 35% or more has dropped.
For the first time in over a decade, the number of states with obesity rates of 35% or more has dropped.
While this is an encouraging sign, cuts to federal staff and programs that address chronic disease could endanger this progress. #FoodPolicy #Health

TextEdit and the Relief of Simple Software
The bare-bones Mac writing app represents a literalist sensibility that is coming back into vogue as A.I. destabilizes our technological interactions.
โOver the past few years, Iโve found myself relying on TextEdit more as every other app has grown more complicated, adding cloud uploads, collaborative editing, and now generative A.I.โ In a new column, @chaykak.bsky.social writes about the bare-bones Mac writing app.

Can extended producer responsibility programs push food companies to use sustainable packaging?
Can EPR laws drive real packaging change? Explore how holding producers accountable could cut plastic waste in the food industry.
Without any effective laws curbing the use of plastic in packaging, companies have little incentive to choose other materials. But what if that were different?

Taste has been and always will be king ๐. Hereโs why. The secret to nudging people to eat better is actually never to talk about health or nutrition or sustainability but to talk about things that really matter to people. And with food, itโs taste.

All commercially manufactured crackers are #UPF. Common sense suggests they canโt all be bad. So Iโm on a quest to find one thatโs tasty, nutritious, less processed. Tastes okay to me but the uniformity is #monotonous.
So Iโve made a note of the observation and my search continues.
18.10.2025 17:43 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0
These reasons make sense to me:
โข Weโve gotten used to the taste of too much salt & sugar. And folks like what ever it is they get used to.
โข Quality ingredients are expensive. Many food start ups are using #UPF technology to offer better quality food. But these products cost more than cheap crap.
