Very helpful, awesome! We were also discussing that pangenomes show how extensive genomic variations are, so that 20 bp is very low. The limits were possibly brought up by lawyers and a compromise for those who want zero changes.

The reason for this is an old paper from the Weigel lab which claims that 20bp inserts occur thousands of times when comparing A. thaliana ecotypes. The lawyers wanted a number (surely not scientists who understand biological variations).
