The consistent message in this excellent piece is that having regional allies is critical for this military strategy and yet current US foreign/aid policy and economic policy seems at odds with this.

An incredible investment for a standing army of 63,000. Even if Germany can grow its manpower substantially it still is an investment in old tactics and structures and doesn’t seem like the most efficient way to increase lethality.

Agreed the UK is the US’s largest aircraft carrier and the intelligence operations very closely intertwined at all levels. The US agencies fear the agenda of their administration so keeping the close relationship with the UK becomes more important as they try and maintain their capability.

Part of the dilemma for the Brits is that at an operating level it continues to be an incredibly close and special relationship. This obscures the truth and also tempts the Brits to maybe ride his term over and hope for a new future in 4 years time.

President Trump pardoned a man sentenced for tax crimes after his mother went to a $1 million-per-plate dinner at Mar-a-Lago. His pardon application cited his mother’s support for the president, including raising millions of dollars and a connection to a plot to publicize a Biden family diary.

This all done to create good TV. Any visiting head of state must be thinking how am I going to be ambushed on TV for the sake of good ratings and how will I deal with it.

And in doing so completely demoralise all of the police and security staff tasked with defending the capital.

I am not sure that would be an issue. Both US and HK citizens are allowed to use E gates at German airports. I am sure that the US and HK do not recognise EU id cards.

E gates is a national not EU issue. For UK citizens to use E gates we need to do bilateral national agreements and agree data sharing protocols. UK citizens are allowed to use Egates at some European airports and not others.

No other ex president has ever owned a plane like this. If he continues to use it after his term ends it will be hugely symbolic and a continued presidential status symbol.
