Dr. Grinsztejn introduced ImPrEP LEN Brasil, the first lenacapavir implementation study in Latin America. Participants will choose between oral PrEP and lenacapavir, with the study tracking persistence, switching and user behavior, supported by adapted mHealth tools across the PrEP journey. #IAS2025

Carmen Pérez Casas at #IAS2025 identified two key drivers for long-acting PrEP success: low-cost, quality-assured products and delivery approaches that maximize epidemic impact. Unitaid is working on both fronts with urgency.

At #IAS2025, Maria Cristina Pimenta de Oliveira shared that mHealth-enhanced counselling gave providers more time to address concerns, helping build trust in PrEP options. Addressing contextual barriers and knowledge gaps is key to reaching those most vulnerable to HIV.

At #IAS2025, Thiago Silva Torres reinforced the need for equity in PrEP programs. The ImPrEP CAB Brasil cohort was largely composed of Black or mixed-race participants, i.e. those often left behind by traditional prevention models.

At #IAS2025, Dr. Artur Kalichman of Brazil’s Ministry of Health emphasized the critical role of implementation science in shaping effective HIV prevention policy. Studies like ImPrEP, funded by Unitaid, are essential tools for delivering real-world solutions.

Nikkiso to expand medical oxygen output with four ASUs in Africa Nikkiso Clean Energy & Industrial Gases Group will install four air separation units (ASUs) in Kenya and Tanzania to increase production of medical oxygen as part of a regional health initiative with healthcare organisation Unitaid, which estimates the plants could save up to 154,000 lives.

Each year, 15 million people in Africa need oxygen. Unitaid’s partnership with Nikkiso brings modular oxygen plants to Kenya and Tanzania, helping close a deadly supply gap and reducing reliance on external sources.
