not to "um actually" because it doesn't matter but the entire story of halo is about how destroying the flood at the cost of killing everyone in the universe is not worth it, also they team up with the aliens to defeat the flood in a different way that requires setting aside differences

if you saved 100,000k a year you would be a billionaire in ten thousand years.

it would take you 4,840,000 years to obtain elon musk's current net worth at that rate.

there are zero ethical ways to accumulate that much money in a lifetime, it's built entirely on exploitation of workers.

Turkey referee scandal: Hundreds of officials found with betting accounts Turkey's football federation will launch disciplinary proceedings after hundreds of professional match officials are found to have betting accounts.

so

a) this is bad, and we need to talk about how deeply legalized gambling can denature sporting competition

but

b) this report does not specifically claim that these referees have bet on matches they were refereeing, which would obviously be the nuclear scandal www.bbc.com/sport/footba...

Giants fans feeling bad for the Dodgers is a bit on brand since I think Bay Area sports fans are by far the most holier-than-thou sports fans in America

my one stance about the astros "cheating" is that more of y'all should have been laughing at the dodgers and yankees, but instead, y'all cried for them as if they weren't two of the most hated/disliked teams in american sports history

also very weird how no one batted an eye to that excel spreadsheet of employees ranked by potential criminality. no directive to deal with those employees before they got a chance to get them in actual trouble... nothing

i am once again saying that the d*dgers literally had a spreadsheet ranking organizational employees by their level of relative criminal exposure. they had the largest staff-wide drop in spin rate of any team during spider tack enforcement. i simply don't care what anyone does to or against them.

excerpt from the houston chronicle article linked above:

Perhaps the most significant development came in the arena of student-athlete eligibility. The council passed a proposal from the standing committee on policy that prohibits foreign exchange students from participating in UIL varsity athletics beginning in the 2026-27 school year. That came amid concerns about competitive advantage and fairness to Texas athletes.

After the floor was opened to discussion on the amendment, a concern was also expressed about the possible competitive advantage that schools with open enrollment have. The conversation then shifted to athletes who move to different schools within Texas for athletic purposes but are immediately eligible to compete at the varsity level due to lack of intervention from superintendents and district executive committees. The UIL in recent legislative sessions has taken several measures to tighten up the expectations of the DECs when it comes to eligibility issues. The rule passed Monday represented another step in that process of protecting competitive equity across the state.

β€œThis is not anywhere close to the first time we’ve heard about issues with this or we’ve heard stories about this,” said Dr. Aaron Hood, superintendent of Robert Lee ISD and chair of the standing committee on policy. β€œI’ve heard today, as all the other committees have been talking, they talk about Texas, they talk about community-based schools. Those are the statements they’ve been making. Our Texas kids are not allowed to go to a neighboring town without moving there and play at the varsity level. But (other kids) are allowed to get on a plane and come across to our state and play immediately, taking the place, many times, of a community kid that has worked hard to get that position on an athletic team. I do not understand β€” I’ve said this for 12 years β€” why we continue to allow that to happen.”
