Dan Neil has the opportunity to become the first NE-born homegrown player to captain Sunderland to a win at Wembley since Raich Carter in 1937.

Whatever happens at Wembley, this young team with Luke and Dan Neil leading them have been an absolute joy. Proper footballers, good young men. Credit to Speakman - he’s built towards this from day one. They deserve the opportunity whatever Lampard may say.
