I had never really thought of it that way, I'm in general quite open to exploring things that are new and cause a bit of upheaval but what I hate about it is that the outputs are crap and yet appear on first glance to be perfect. I'm not saying all AI, but some AI, and enough AI that it's a pain.

The more I interact with gen AI in all its revolting incarnations both personally and professionally, the more I want to light my computer on fire, crush my phone under my heel, and buy a typewriter and start using a landline again.

Another one for the "AI is unusable by design" theme: humans are bad at checking AI "work" because the conventional signals indicating An Error are missing. The formatting, the confidence, all suggest "error-free."

Interesting to hear about the upgrades at the Aussie synchrotron. People (including this article) sometimes talk about the big annual electrical bill for sync facilities, but apparently hospital annual electric bills are on the order of $1M too - big numbers but context is everything!

My feed is going to be synchrotron themed for the next few weeks, I'm immersing myself for a bit!

My favourite artist from the North Peace of BC, where I grew up, is Mike Kroecher. I don't have a favourite painting by him, I like a lot of his work. Something about the colors and the care he takes with the landscapes, he knows that space in his heart like I do.
