EPA: Syracuse must improve testing, communication on lead levels in drinking water Federal agency issues findings after spring inspection that was triggered by elevated lead test results in 2024.

The EPA has ordered Syracuse to strengthen lead testing and improve how it alerts residents about drinking water results, after tests showed up to 4x the safe amount of lead.

While not deemed a health emergency, the city must comply to avoid a $50K penalty.
