There's definitely comfort in looking back at previous work & seeing improvement since then, but you're right, that ceiling seems to be ever illusive. Perhaps you are correct that it's the sign of creativity constantly growing, I can only hope. lol!
But it's definitely nice to know we aren't alone.

My biggest struggle as a writer is "seeing" the story I want to write in my head, and constantly running up against the ceiling of what I am capable of writing. Practice brings me closer and closer, but I wonder if I'll ever truly reach my own standard.

I've gotten back into listening to Jazz while writing lately. An interesting choice to pair with my high fantasy WIP with magical pirates and bear people, imo.

Understandable. Omniscient isn't super common these days, seemingly cause it's difficult to really get right.
I usually go with limited 3rd. Though I've got drafts of a novel and a short story right now that are both 1st, cause I find that POV interesting but don't have as much experience with it.

That POV hoping can be difficult to manage! I've attempted similar before but never nailed it.
Right now my biggest challenge is a short I'm working on. Writing from 1st POV of an android that has no personal identity or sense of self. Turns out when you can't say "I" or "me", it's tough. lol!

That's a nice way of putting it, "dialogue tags should be invisible", and I agree! I credit my writing group with guiding me on how to avoid clunky tags!

Funny paradox of being a writer:
To write good dialogue, one needs to learn how to use dialogue tags. To make better dialogue one must learn where NOT to use dialogue tags.

I have inspiration playlists on a few different platforms. But the really detailed stuff, like character specific, has all gotten lost over the years. Trying to nail down the vibe of my current WIP.

That sounds like a good idea. I listen to a lot of instrumental stuff, so I get what you mean by the different languages. Definitely gonna check this out!

How important are connected themes in a trilogy? This is the question I've been asking myself lately. As I write/plan out my current series, I realize I have a lot of character development/arcs, but over-arching themes are lacking.

Gonna attempt to get back into Voice Acting. Been a good while since I was in those trenches, but I've been feeling confident about my voice again after having taken a step back.

A strategy I have for maintaining progress in a WIP that I'm burnt on is writing "concept" scenes. Moments I haven't reached yet but crave writing. They can change once reached in the draft but it helps drive creativity during down time.

I can certainly see how memoir writing would be far more charged in that aspect. I'm not sure I would have the stones at this point in my life, you are braver than I. So, fiction is where I remain for now.

Genuis! That's the sort of life-hack thinking that gets you places.

No one warns about the part of writing where you draw on your own experiences. I've been piecing together a scene where one character finally gets my protag to feel her own grief, to let it out. Pulling a lot from my own experience, one memory in particular...& it's tough.
