A connection to family remains, but their name reflects them as they live authenticity—a person who has no doubt of who they are & what they are passionate about. It’s awesome they can confidently move forward to the future knowing the name of their own choosing that can never be taken away.

As witnesses, my husband and I proudly affirmed our child’s desire for a legal name change.

Once upon a time, we chose a name for our child that was meaningful to us. The name honored loved ones from both sides of our families. Now, they were able to legally choose a name meaningful to them.

The middle name came out of two inspirations:
1. Years’ long passion for 11th Century Medieval history and the Vikings.
2. They wanted to honor Scandinavian roots on both of our paternal sides and because their middle name is the masculine version of a cousin’s first name in feminine version.

As of March 6, 2025, it is so ordered by Minnesota Fourth Judicial District...our 22 y/o child has a new legal name.

At the hearing, the judge asked why they chose the name. They explained the long name is for formal use, and the shortened, everyday day felt right and comfortable.

This is great—Huitema is a lock-in for 5 yrs. He’s in charge of ensuring new new administration signs the ethics compliance agreement.

Trump is well past the signing deadline. What happens on Inauguration Day if he still hasn’t signed the agreement?
