The is why Steam Deck is the best PC handheld. Microsoft won’t even put the same amount of effort into Windows when so many people use it for gaming and all these PC handhelds. They need to place 1/10th of the emphasis they have on AI into making Windows not be a hot mess of a dumpster fire.

2019 for me, Nintendo Switch 1 reignited my passion for games and I think it was the best generation since the PS2. Nintendo Switch 2 is the first system I’ve ever preordered and played on launch day. I just agree with their direction very much in a time where PlayStation has really disappointed me.

Yooka Replaylee also ($20 more for physical). I am surprised though that Sega and others haven’t released some real NSW2 cartridges through LRG just to see if there’s a real market for more expensive versions. The Yakuza Kiwami games would’ve been perfect because they’re already priced cheaply.

I love her outlook on the industry, she’s one of the few people with a YouTube channel that I agree with the vast majority of what she has to say and feel like she’s really sincere and saying what she believes regardless of whether or not it will be popular or liked.

Oh I actually just realized what you meant (I think)-the first photo that looks like our retail NSW2 in dock is just a retail unit. Bc it wouldn’t need a dock when it has box black/white/red. The photo of just the tablet portion with the dual USB C ports on the bottom is the actual NSW2 devkit.

Oh interesting. Sorry I thought it was a devkit because it had dual USB C ports side by side on the bottom (and because of the way they labeled the photo). Thank you for the detailed answer.

What is the difference between these three devices (Box white/black/red)? And how do they differ from this devkit?

I really like the new Switch Charger, it’s much nicer looking than OG Switch. And I’m glad it doesn’t use a weird power profile like Switch 1, it should play nicer with 3rd party wall adapters. Would’ve been cool if they’d used GAN components to make it smaller. Probably didn’t for cost reasons.

You got a link to Chargerlab’s teardown? I don’t see it on their YouTube channel..

Ok thanks, I appreciate your insight. I’m trying to stay optimistic because I know Playtonic are genuinely good people and made up of former Rare employees who made DKC/Banjo/Diddy K Racing. I want to support them because it’s not super common for devs of that era to still be making games in 2025.

What do you think about the performance patch materializing? I wanna buy this on Switch 2, I feel like Playtonic will do the right thing here but their language sounds noncommittal to me.

I love this controller because it feels so close to the original, just wish they would have added the clickable buttons for the analog sticks so that you could play modern games with it (also allowed us to reverse the shoulder buttons to be in-line with the standard orientation).

This is why @dark1x.bsky.social is my favorite DF member, he almost always represents my POV about the industry, publishers, and games perfectly. Glad we have him to articulate many of the issues that exist.

When does that happen? I feel like I’m treading that line at 38, or maybe I’m already past it by now.

It looks like they corrected it to β€œIce is micro dick energy” which is even worse, yet more accurate.

But Switch 2 editions have the NSW2 executable on the cartridge, you can download a newer version if one’s available but everything needed is already on the cart for the NSW2E carts that I own.

26.09.2025 16:14 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

It’s possible for technically undemanding games with smaller install sizes, Nintendo might offer publishers the ability to use a slower technology and still put it inside a red cartridge. This is all guesswork at the end of the day.

26.09.2025 16:10 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Well I mean, one would assume that NSW2 edition games need to perform as well as standard switch 2 cartridges do when running on a Switch 2. That’s why I don’t think Switch 1 cartridges would cut it. But I’m just an individual making my best guess, I’m not gonna pretend like I truly know for sure.

Thank you, this patent is what I was basing my assumption on, actually. I read it quite thoroughly when you shared it during that conversation about SW outlaws needing GKC because of data transfer speeds.

Different things from a marketing and functionality standpoint, they’re the same thing on a technical/hardware level.

26.09.2025 15:50 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I think you’re mistaken, NPW account showed us not long ago that switch 2 cartridges use eMMC, not SD Express (which was rumored but appears to be untrue). There’s no evidence that Switch 2 edition carts are using the same tech as Switch 1 carts, they’re just backwards compatible w/ Switch 1.

26.09.2025 15:46 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Is there a meaningful difference (technically speaking) between a switch 2 edition cartridge and a standard switch 2 cartridge? Aren’t they the same on a hardware level and (presumably) the same cost as a standard cart for publishers?

This is so interesting. Thanks for all the info you post, I’ve learned so much from following you. Lots of things that others accounts and news outlets don’t really discuss because it’s so technical and specific. We appreciate your hard work. πŸ™

It’s unclear though if they were using the digital version of Cyberpunk or the cartridge, as they tested both versions of the game in their NSW2 review and didn’t specify which version they were using for the gamechat test.

06.09.2025 03:43 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Cyberpunk can have issues with streaming data when simultaneously using Gamechat. Digital Foundry showed it in their NSW2 review @ 1h30m mark. Also, CP was designed to work on 8th gen consoles with their HDDs, so it might not be the best barometer for modern games being limited by storage speeds.

06.09.2025 03:38 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

More non-Game Key Card physical releases, I mean.

05.09.2025 15:43 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

They should give publishers the option, then they could use the cheaper Switch 1 cartridges, but require a mandatory install to internal storage. I think most physical collectors would rather have full data on the cart over needing a download. Theoretically would lead to more physical NSW2 games.

This is interesting, a lot of people were saying it was a customized version of SD Express but I didn’t believe that because of how much longer the loading times are. It makes me wonder why the cost is so much higher if it’s not using a faster data transfer technology. Weird choice from Nintendo.

And I played Selaco on the second hardest difficulty too. And wouldn’t never watch a let’s play over playing a game I’m interested in.
