I caught Tron: Ares last night. It had no right being that much fun. It reminded me a little of The Terminator spliced with Reboot - that computer-animated kids show from the 90s.

Killer soundtrack too, on par with Daft Punk’s thumping Tron: Legacy score

Very nice, thanks. I do want to watch more older films this year so this is very helpful

A β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜… review of Avatar: Fire and Ash (2025) In the last few years it seems to have become the β€˜cool’ thing to hate on these movies for whatever reason, and I’m having none of it. There’s no denying that they’re technical marvels. Avatar continu...

I want to try and get back in to the habit of sharing my thoughts on films, so with that in mind, here’s what I thought of #AvatarFireAndAsh boxd.it/c8D1m9

Am rewatching Jingle All The Way (seeing as it’s Christmas) and was curious as to what Phil Hartman’s character’s kid looks like now.

Surely, if we ever got a John Candy biopic, E.J. De La Pena is your guy

I am off to a gig tonight. I’m seeing The Offspring.

It’s just occurred to me that I’m wearing the same jacket I’ve worn to the last three shows I’ve been to

It’s giving…

Sam Rivers death has really hit me.

He was one of my inspirations for first picking up a bass guitar.

Bass players in nu-metal don’t often get the recognition they deserve but if you listen to the intro on tracks like Re-Arranged and Take a Look Around, you’ll get it. RIP to a legend

A β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜… review of The Smashing Machine (2025) Dwayne Johnson rightly deserves all the plaudits he’s getting for this career-defining performance.Β  However, this film has no plot. Kerr was fighting until 2009 but we’re given just Β a small three-ye...

I saw #TheSmashingMachine tonight and was compelled to get my thoughts down as quickly as possible, so here they are on Letterboxd boxd.it/bhiU5j

Going to Portugal soon. Have just bought six train tickets for three separate journeys for when we’re out there and it’s cost just Β£45

A regular reminder that we’re ripped off for train travel in the UK

I think we need to talk about Cooper Hoffman in #TheLongWalk. What a powerhouse performance that was. And his character’s monologue about losing his father is especially poignant knowing he’s had to deal with that very same grief

Seeing photos of Ted Lasso filming again is REALLY making me miss living in Richmond, so let’s talk about the time I went for a walk and saw them shooting season 3 just minutes from my front door

I went in to Eddington thinking we were getting a Coen-esque, dark comedy about escalating tensions between a small town’s sheriff and mayor over Covid-19 precautions that would have shades of No Country for Old Men and Burn After Reading

What we got in fact was one of the best films of the year

I saw #FantasticFour tonight and while I’m still digesting it, my first takeaway is that it reminded me of both Ghostbusters 1 and 2. Giant tramples around New York. Evil being sees a newborn baby as the future of their existence

Saw The F1 movie last night.

The very fact it makes you care about tactics, airflow, dirty air and race strategy is a seriously impressive feat.

Despite this gripe, I still hold a soft spot 28 Weeks Later because one of my first jobs in journalism was interning at DVD Review magazine, and I remember transcribing interviews with Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and Robert Carlyle, and getting a little β€˜additional reporting’ byline in the magazine

I’ve just finished my rewatch of 28 Weeks Later and it annoys me that I never noticed this before but the film features, quite prominently, the new Wembley Stadium… which opened in 2007. Now, in this universe, the world theoretically ended in 2002. THAT STADIUM SHOULDN’T EXIST

I’m going to see 28 Years Later tomorrow night (because it seems literally everyone in the world has already seen it) so I’m rewatching 28 Days Later right now and will take on 28 Weeks Later tomorrow morning

So I know I said The Salt Path is one of the best British films for quite a while, and I stand by that, but The Ballad of Wallis Island can now join that list

A remarkable, brilliantly-written, funny, emotional film with wonderful performances all round. It will make my Top Ten of 2025

I catch The Salt Path with my wife at the weekend.

I will happily say it’s one of the best British films in some time. It covers some heavy topics, but it’s genuinely feel-good and Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs are wonderful. And now I can’t stop thinking about coastal walks.

I’m a little concerned I haven’t been to the cinema in well over a week. I caught Final Destination and it was a return to form, but we’re getting into the busy time of the year for movies and I fear I won’t have time for them all. I still need to see Final Reckoning!
