So many people I actually respected turned out to be addicted to the dopamine slot machine. I killed my Facebook account and like, it was inconvenient at times but I feel better not being there. Haven’t posted on Twitter in like two years. It’s so easy to not be part of the problem.

There are so many problems with AI, doomsaying that it’s turning young people into brainless idiots isn’t reflective of anything except our own fears and isn’t gonna be helpful long term. If you tell people the fight is already lost, it’s easy for them to just not have it.

There’s a deep irony to people so concerned about students using chatgpt to avoid their own research that they’ll blindly repost a poorly-contextualised graph because it appears to agree with their biases. AI is a problem, but spreading misinformation isn’t helpful either.

For what it’s worth, this is a graph of API (rather than ChatGPT) usage that was basically debunked as having any link to students, and was likely a big customer leaving OpenRouter: bsky.app/profile/osto...

I don’t know if anyone else here listened to Off Menu but Stevie Martin’s recent episode is an absolute classic. Totally unhinged choices from the outset when she chooses “flat sparkling water” as her choice for sparkling or still water.

Anna was disappointed there wasn’t more of a conclusion, like an animatic or something. I was more annoyed that there were seemingly incomplete puzzles! Great game though, as you say. If someone had told me I was gonna put 100+ hours in I might never have started, but it was brilliant all through.

My #1 tip for selling comics online is that if anyone messages you using the phrase "spine ticks" you should simply block them immediately because they will, at best, spend hours requesting and scrutinising photos before deciding not to buy anything.

Exactly that. As ever, posting about the problem makes people feel like they’re doing something but without the burden of them actually having to inconvenience themselves in even the smallest way.

A friend observed recently that AI has become this sort of totem around which criticisms of capitalism are coalescing, and the more I think about the more that observation seems dead on. I would encourage people who spend their days making fun of imaginary chatgpt users to consider the root cause.

And like that’s fine, it isn’t obligated to lean left, but I think if you go in expecting it to you’ll be surprised. IMO, if you were right wing and watched this movie you wouldn’t come away feeling like you were the target of the jokes or the narrative.

Apropos of a few takes I’ve seen: The Naked Gun is less critical of the police than Daredevil Reborn was, and while the villain is textually a Bezos/Musk he’s not actually embodying any of their traits. To call this movie left-wing ignores that the massively violent and corrupt guy does get results.

The Naked Gun really takes aim at those middle-aged-guy-with-a-gun movies but unfortunately it doesn’t actually pull the trigger and just sort of ends up being one. Still absolutely devastating for the Nobody 2 trailer which ran before it though.

My friend gave me his comics to sell and in there is a super-htf copy of the Phonogram fanzine. If any Gillen/Mckelvie fans don’t have one, this is your chance. Only a few hundred ever made, basically-impossible to find. Would love to see it in the hands of a fan.

The Mojo issue of this miniseries is SO much fun. Only time in about 30 years the character has been interesting imo.
