Delighted to see the first chapter of my PhD published in the @icesmarine.bsky.social journal of marine science!
This paper discusses developing a holistic understanding of the sensitivity of fish species in our seas and offers practical recommendations for enchanced species mgmt & protection. ๐ฆ๐
This silky shark is using its nictitating membrane, a protective inner eyelid, as it swims up close to the camera. Sharks usually expose this membrane just prior to feeding, or when they encounter another shark, as a way to protect their eyes from potential injury.

It's Ireland's Women in Sport Week! ๐
Growing up I thought I was "unsporty", but I finally realised that isn't a thing. Sports are for everyone, you just need to find the right people to play with. Happy #WIS week to my fellow tag rugby-playing women from work. Can't wait to start this season! ๐
It's so frustrating to sit back and watch conservation effort after conservartion effort thwarted by the hands of people who refuse to accept the reality of what's happening to this planet

The sun has *finally* come out here in Galway & I hope it's as dry and bright wherever you are too! It's a lovely day for a little beachcomb, so if anyone stumbles across any mermaids' purses this weekend be sure to submit them to our online sighting form!

Hi! I'm a #marinebiologist researching data poor & rare #sharks & #rays. I'm running away from the bird app before it implodes ๐
If I'm not posting about #elasmobranchs I'm usually spreading my love of #Irish by sharing marine themed posts as Gaeilge w/ #OceanAsGaeilge. It's fun - stick around! (:
