The reality is, you win these voters or you lose the primary. This will continue to be the state of affairs until some currently baked-in things about political geography or demographics change.

I bring this up for three reasons:

A notable fact about this is that the weight of this influence has helped candidates that are quite thoroughly in the mainstream of the party, ideologically speaking. Sometimes a white candidate, sometimes a black candidate. Always someone with broad appeal.

It’s not that every black voter thinks the same way but enough of them do to make a difference particularly given that large numbers of these voters are located in states in the South where most active Dem voters are black.

I have no idea if this is consciously coordinated but it happens.

The thing about Jesse Jackson is that his most profound political legacy is convincing a buttload of mostly black people to register and vote in the 80s.

And the thing about that is every Dem presidential primary from ‘92 on has been won by the candidate that is most acceptable to those voters.

Going down a rabbit hole of showing live P-Funk clips on YouTube to the 10 year old on the theory that the young people need to learn about the Night Of The Thumpasaurus Peoples somehow

I’m not sure I agree with the former but I see where they’re coming from. The latter group is self-evidently insane and is constantly trying to work out why the scope of projects are limited by things like “people with specific skills want to be paid for doing their job.”

There’s a specific faction out there that believes that Fully Automated Gay Luxury Space Communism is a realistic and ideal end state for humanity and a second faction that says FAGLSC is a few murked CEOs and politicians away from being a reality here and now

If I’m betting money, I reckon that the SAVE Act mishegoss is a lot less likely to be “the GOP have invented the perfect weapon to suppress Dem votes” and a lot more likely to be “Trump is desperately clinging to fairy tales about massive vote fraud to avoid admitting he’s not massively popular”
