Ireland's Temperate Rainforest
YouTube video by Trinity College Dublin Ireland's Temperate Rainforest

Five species from Ireland's temperate rainforest in five minutes, presented by me! I am super happy with how this turned out, so do take a look. And a huge thank you to Michelle, Daniel, Peter L, and Jenny for making this happen!

Great thread. Echoes my history and policy module at Bangor. I now understand most of what you're walking about, as I'm sure many do. Looks like great work.

The extent of Storm #Eowyn’s impact on forests cannot be seen properly from the ground. This drone footage taken today above a stand I visited in Meath shows how wind hardened trees around the edge remain standing while the centre has been flattened.

I'm aware it sounds immensely privileged to say that I might be ok with our woods being destroyed. I'm sure when I go down and see the damage that my naivety will be full forced slapped in the face.

For myself I've mixed feelings... I don't know if our woods are flattened but in a way my environmentalist head is all for a serious disturbance but my enterprising mind worries that if this is to happen more often what kind of forestry business will be able to manage with losses like this.

I was there a few weeks ago, the wood either side if this mans house looked well managed and near ready for harvest. Roads just put in last year. Completely flattened now. Must be a massive financial loss.

"Most of the forestry on both sides of the house was flattened by the storm." A message from a neighbour in Sligo. He sent me some footage and it really was flattened. Our mixed and mono forest down the road could be in a bad way.

One of the larger attractions that entices a move home is the thrill and hullabaloo that builds around these storms. #stormEowyn

Is there a good book (with pics) to help with identification of woodland flora that you’d recommend ray? I imagine there’s a few for diff things, lichens, ferns, plants etc. feel very far off knowing any.
