The extent of Storm #Eowynβs impact on forests cannot be seen properly from the ground. This drone footage taken today above a stand I visited in Meath shows how wind hardened trees around the edge remain standing while the centre has been flattened.

26.01.2025 19:33 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I'm aware it sounds immensely privileged to say that I might be ok with our woods being destroyed. I'm sure when I go down and see the damage that my naivety will be full forced slapped in the face.
26.01.2025 19:32 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0For myself I've mixed feelings... I don't know if our woods are flattened but in a way my environmentalist head is all for a serious disturbance but my enterprising mind worries that if this is to happen more often what kind of forestry business will be able to manage with losses like this.
26.01.2025 19:32 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I was there a few weeks ago, the wood either side if this mans house looked well managed and near ready for harvest. Roads just put in last year. Completely flattened now. Must be a massive financial loss.
26.01.2025 19:32 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0"Most of the forestry on both sides of the house was flattened by the storm." A message from a neighbour in Sligo. He sent me some footage and it really was flattened. Our mixed and mono forest down the road could be in a bad way.

28.12.2024 09:59 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Is there a good book (with pics) to help with identification of woodland flora that youβd recommend ray? I imagine thereβs a few for diff things, lichens, ferns, plants etc. feel very far off knowing any.
