Through the Eye of an Octopus
An exploration of the brainpower of a lowly mollusk
My first encounter with Eric Scigliano was as a sci comm grad student assigned to read this piece he wrote for Discover Magazine: www.discovermagazine.com/planet-earth.... The students often had differing critiques of the assigned pieces, but we all agreed this one was captivating. RIP Eric

How a powerful bomb cyclone ravaged WA
The bomb cyclone swirled with such intensity off the coast that it ravaged the region Tuesday, downing trees, toppling power lines and killing at least two.
The #BombCyclone that developed off Washington's coast "belongs to an upper echelon of low-pressure systems."

Weather maps show coast of Washington has possibility of gusts in excess of 45mph and in some places higher than 55 mph.
Was hoping for a blue sky day to join Here for our first post, but, it's a Big Storm day, instead.
Just got off a call with the National Weather Service: Western WA should prepare for the potential for power outages, trees down and debris.

A large wildlife overpass crosses I-90 at Snoqualmie Pass in the Cascades mountains, Washington State, USA.
New paper! Wildlife crossings are a win-win, protecting motorists and increasing wildlife resilience to climate change by reducing mortality and reconnecting habitats.
We review how crossings support adaptation and offer siting/design considerations to maximize benefits.
