“Where in the hell are you from? Just about anyone that is a true Seattleite knows that cedar turns a silvery grey. Ever payed attention to cedar shingle roofs?
Oh well, not everyone can date their family lineage in the heart of Seattle to the 1860’s. So annoying that so many of the people that write in Seattle these days know nothing of our region.

Reply from Melissa Santos reads:
Hi! I’ve lived in western Washington for more than 30 years and been in Seattle for two of those decades. I wrote that story not necessarily because I don’t know what happens to untreated cedar, but thought it was an interesting materials choice for a waterfront structure that had a very different look 11 months ago.
Thanks for reading and taking the time to write.
Chill out Charlie it’s just wood

It's supposed to blend in with all that grayishness I guess

The Seattle Aquarium's new waterfront building is turning gray
The Ocean Pavilion's siding is changing color — and it's not a design flaw.
Walking by the Seattle Aquarium's Ocean Pavilion a little a year after it opened, I couldn't help but notice it looked... different. But aquarium officials say the wooden siding is turning silvery-gray on purpose. www.axios.com/local/seattl...

A statement was made. In their failing campaigns, the incumbents stressed progress on public safety, along with quality-of-life improvements since the pandemic and adding massive investments into affordable housing over the last four years. It wasn’t enough.
Section highlighted: "There will be new faces at City Hall. But City Hall hasn’t changed." (end highlighting)
Putting protest votes against President Donald Trump aside (if that’s possible), conventional wisdom says Wilson and the others won by stressing affordability. And lots of free stuff.
Like, the building, or....?
It's true there's not some clear progressive majority on the City Council now, but I'm still not tracking totally what's being said here.

I'm less familiar with Bloomberg's resume and whether this was true for him ... But in Wilson's case, she ran successful local ballot measure campaigns, and people inside city hall said she co-wrote major tax legislation before this (among other things). bsky.app/profile/meli...

Zoom in: Before running for mayor, Wilson led ballot measure campaigns to pass higher minimum wages in cities near Seattle, and helped push several suburban city councils to pass new renter protections.
She also "was a co-architect" of Seattle's JumpStart payroll expense tax, which targets large, high-paying employers like Amazon, King County Councilmember Teresa Mosqueda told Axios.
"She is no stranger to City Hall," said Mosqueda, who championed the tax while on the Seattle City Council.
"She's been there for over a decade working on issues."
The national media has realized that Seattle's next mayor is going to be a socialist who has never before held elected office. Those things are true.
But mayor-elect Katie Wilson is no neophyte when it comes to local politics.

Why Seattle's elections often swing left during later counts
Younger Seattleites tend to vote late — a dynamic that's shaping the mayor's race.
And if you're wondering how a candidate like Katie Wilson goes from being down 7 points on election night to winning a week later ... let me explain to you the world of Seattle elections. www.axios.com/local/seattl... #waelex

Seattle's mayoral race appears to be the closest in over a century
Katie Wilson's lead over Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell was among the tightest in city history, as of Wednesday's count.
The race between Katie Wilson and Bruce Harrell is the 2nd closest Seattle mayoral race in history as of right now. She's the winner by 0.7 percentage points as of Wednesday's count. www.axios.com/local/seattl...

Also has to be within half a percentage point. She's at 0.7% and margin likely only to increase or stay same

Well, that's a wrap -- The Seattle Times has called the Seattle mayor's race for Katie Wilson with these numbers. She's now up about 0.7% and hardly any ballots remain. Out of recount territory #waelex

Deleted an earlier tweet in this thread because I briefly was using the wrong totals for Wilson and Harrell in my math. She's in recount territory - barely - right now, but it's a big margin still and Harrell would be unlikely to gain 1,347 votes with a recount.

Deleted a previous tweet on recount math, as I miscalculated something while looking at a page that hadn't refreshed properly! It's true that Wilson is very narrowly in recount territory, although that still could change. Also still true that it's wide margin that would be unlikely to reverse

yes, i talk about that in the next tweet on the thread.
12.11.2025 00:29 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0
The point is, there may not be a recount; if there is, it's a pretty wide margin for Wilson -- more than 1,300 votes -- that a recount would be unlikely to reverse. #waelex

Candidates and others can also request recounts. It would cost them something like $40K in this race for a machine recount, based on the rules and number of ballots.

State of play: 267,875 ballots had been counted in the race as of Monday, making Wilson's 91-vote margin razor thin.
King County Elections estimated there are still about 6,400 Seattle ballots that have yet to be counted from last week's election, along with roughly 1,700 Seattle ballots with signature issues that can potentially be resolved.
Wilson is now capturing 49.83% of the vote to Harrell's 49.79%.
That's a shift from election night, when Wilson trailed Harrell by about 7 percentage points. #waelex
