a photograph of the interior of a church. Several people are visible sitting in pews. In the pew immediately in front of the photographer, a black human-sized cardboard cutout in the outline of a woman is visible, as though a shadow is sitting in the pew in front of you.

Went to a prayer service tonight at St. Mary of the Lake, where they have cardboard cutouts throughout the church representing parishioners afraid to come to Mass because of ICE.

$5b-plus blowout for eight Roads of National Significance The Government's 17 Roads of National Significance will cost it at least $44 billion – enough to rebuild Dunedin Hospital 23 times over. Marc Daalder reports.

The Luxon Govt’s bonkers plan to build 17 Big New Roads that we don’t really need will cost us at least $44 billion.

That’s enough to rebuild Dunedin Hospital 23 times over or to massively improve public transport and cycle infrastructure in all our cities. #nzpol

i think people who have a hard on for Ai truly cannot understand that some people are just talented in the arts and have worked hard to become better at their craft. saying this to the creator of one of the best shows ever written is insane.

For Nothing Is Fixed, by James Baldwin

For nothing is fixed,
forever, forever, forever.
it is not fixed; the earth is always shifting,
the light is always changing. the sea
does not cease
to grind down rock.

Generations do
not cease
to be born, and we are responsible to them because we are
witnesses they have

The sea rises,
the light
fails,
lovers cling to each other,
and children cling to us.

The moment we cease to hold each other, the moment we break faith with one another, the sea engulfs us and
the light goes out.

A crowd of people gathers in front of a stone war memorial arch for a protest. Several individuals are holding Palestinian flags, and a large banner with bold black letters is partially visible in the foreground. Some attendees wear backpacks and jackets, and one person is speaking through a megaphone near the arch. The sky is overcast, and a construction crane rises in the background above the trees.

A short notice protest was called in Ōtautahi Christchurch today when Israel intercepted civilian ships in international waters detaining those aboard, including Aotearoa New Zealand citizens.

Columbia has expelled Israeli diplomats. Aotearoa should do the same

Buried in the detail about reducing earthquake strengthening is the removal of requirements for disabled access and fire safety. You know who does that? Sociopaths.

New Zealand desperately needs good health workers and if you're a doctor/NP/nurse who gets a job in the public health system, you can get residency straightaway.

If you're an American looking to leave, it's a good option. Happy to chat further, drop me a DM

Local candidates: it's not much help telling us you're married with 3 kids and have run your own business. I need to know where you stand on issues: fluoridation, cycleways, water, homelessness, climate change mitigation, housing density, libraries, and which issues you care about most.

and these books are brilliant wrapped in bonkers.

Private schools got a boost of $4.6 million under this govt, upping the annual Government funding to $46.2m. David Seymour wants to increase it by more.

A reminder ACT's charter schools are funded at $50,000 per student and took away ~$150m from public schools too

Priorities.

Chloe was right, was right to say it and was right not to apologize

There are multiple government MPs who are saying privately they know the govt position is deeply wrong but are putting *themselves* first when it comes to the greatest atrocity of the modern age. That's FAR more than just spineless

FYI: This is MSF’s typical stance. For them to comment like this is a VERY big deal. Of course it’s obvious that Israel has been committing genocide against Palestine, but for MSF to explicitly state that is in direct opposition to many of their funders. Every inch of ground counts. Free Palestine
