Spouse loves the slow movement more than about anything (though I assume I'm on that list, too, since he sticks around...).

Heard a really lovely, nuanced & well-shaped performance of the Grieg piano concerto this afternoon. We were reminded what a lovely work it is & that, though often viewed as a "war horse" it was nice to listen with new ears (yes, have played it many times). Paul Lewis was the fine soloist.

As I recall, he has a long history as a legit newsman (NBC, I think) and got burned out and bought/revived The Onion with friends. Rachel used to interview him often a few years ago.

Yep. I worked there for many summers and my sister went to the Academy in the late '70s. Lots of messed-up folks came out of there, which has always made me wonder.

We were cloudy last night and missed the bright colors everyone else in the state saw. But things are picking up tonight, so maybe we'll get even more color as the evening moves along.

It's the "big city folks" thing for mine, I think (this is the never-left, never-went-to-college contingent; oldest daughter trained as a teacher and moved far away to raise her family). A HS friend of mine posted pictures yesterday of lunch at the Kewpie there, so at least there's one restaurant.

That's going to go well (thinking of my dear MAGA relatives in Lima...)

The USDA sent an email to grocery stores telling them they are prohibited from offering special discounts to customers affected by the SNAP funding lapse.
I'm aware of at least 2 stores that had offered struggling customers a discount, then withdrew it after receiving this email

We got so little funding (retired now), that it was often the only "vacation" we got. Funding was competitive in music dept. & playing on a non-invited concert at the kazoo conference usually won out over invited/refereed presentations at AMS, etc. Ask me how many students I saw per week (sans TAs).
