it actually makes me really good at history (this is a joke)

hi @simonhynd.bsky.social I seem to remember something from the behind-the-scenes of s4e3 of #BBCGhosts where it was said that the supermarket scene (where Mike and Alison are video calling) was one of the first to be shot outside West Horsley Place? is my memory right here?

TV history mutuals and allied chums.

A thread.

As you know, the day job involves acquiring Cool Archive Stuff, and at the minute that involves a lot of 50s-70s British light entertainment, as that’s something I/where I work specialise in. It’s a rum old life.

a woman in a costume is smiling in front of a man with bbc written on the bottom right Alt: Kitty from “Ghosts“, giggling.

hi @benwillbond.bsky.social is Kitty a Catherine or a Katherine? I’m a history student trying to write an analysis of the show :)

I don’t care if babies cry on planes. Planes are unpleasant. I would also like to cry on planes. If a baby cries on a plane, that is not a nuisance. That is simply a relatable baby.

and Cromwell ranking so low too — I wonder that’s because of the genuine atrocities he committed eg in Ireland, or because people know that he basically made fun illegal!

ME: *writing in my journal with the sole aim of pissing off future historians and archaeologists* I returned to my home - which is built in the usual style - by the normal way, and prepared and ate dinner in the way I often but not always do

I remember walking into a green study in that building and just going “whoa, all of France was once governed from this room…”.

amazing topics. seeing the Château de Chenonceau garden, designed by Catherine de Medici (and every other part of the château), when I was fourteen was an experience that helped cement my love of history.

Hi @gregjenner.bsky.social, are saints celebrities in medieval times? Fascination in their personal lives via hagiographies, money being made off them from medallions etc. Arguably even recognisable to strangers eg St Sebastian always being represented with his arrows and therefore recognisably him.

thank you!

I know you do talks / signings / etc every now and then, is there a central place to look at when & where those are happening?

Totally. Unlike that universally recognised fable about the rise of Macrinus which is currently doing tens of millions at the box office.

“Blackadder” and Monty Python (especially “Holy Grail”) had me absolutely enthralled as a twelve-year-old! and now I’m an amateur writer doing a history degree.

I’ve always been a bit intimdated by the whole Save the Cat system because I don’t really know what it is! is it worth looking into?
