"In Chicago, of 92 people arrested for assaulting or impeding officers last fall, 74 cases have resulted in no charges; in 13 cases, charges were filed and dismissed; and five charged cases were still pending. . . there have been no convictions.

ICE is still rampaging in Minnesota. For Native Americans, it’s history repeating itself OPINION: For my tribes, the Dakota andΒ DinΓ© people, seeing federal agents disappear people from their communities isn’t a new crisis. It is a recurring nightmare, Jacqueline Keeler writes.

In my latest article, I write about how ICE raids in Minnesota echo the imprisonment of our ancestors at Fort Snelling, at Bdote, and the execution of the Dakota 38. This isn’t new. The land remembers. So do we. #iceout @sfchronicle.com

In occupied Minneapolis, citizen barricades rightly slow injustice With masked men routinely violating both constitutional rights and traffic laws, local law enforcement should let the barricades stand.

By adopting a time-honored tactic of slowing down malevolent actors, neighbors are taking risks to achieve concrete results, writes @blindeke.bsky.social in this week's Cityscape column.

Kidney recipient arrested by ICE in Rochester last week still isn't getting needed medications The wife of a kidney transplant recipient tells MPR News that four days after his arrest, the man still has not received the medications he needs to keep his body from rejecting the kidney.

By late Friday afternoon, the Department of Homeland Security put out a statement saying authorities had received Abreu-Vasquez's medications and that ICE would work to ensure he received them.

But on Sunday afternoon, his wife told MPR News that he still hadn't received the life-saving medication.

I want to let you know about something that happened at Pizza Luce and encourage you to thank and patronize them. One of the drivers at Parkway Pizza who is a friend of mine told me tonight about something that happened at the downtown Mpls Pizza LucΓ© where his wife works.
A kitchen manager has been giving rides to workers afraid to take public transportation to work. Last week, two ICE SUVs pulled her over. There was a young Latina women in the car and ICE grabbed her. She is here legally, but apparently, if you are not white, you need to carry a passport or other documents with you.
Despite the fact that she is here legally, ICE flew her to their detention facility outside of El Paso, TX. Fortunately, the owner of the Pizza LucΓ© chain paid for a lawyer to expedite her release. Unfortunately, when ICE is forced to release people they have unlawfully detained and flown to Texas, they do not fly them back. They just dump them on the streets of El Paso. But again, fortunately, the owner of Pizza LucΓ© paid for a plane ticket to fly her home. So please thank the folks at Pizza LucΓ© if you have the chance.
Dozens of Minnesotans have not been so lucky as this woman and are trying to find their way back from Texas. Today's NY Times has a story about "Selamawit Mehari, an Eritrean single mother of three.... federal agents showed up at her apartment in St. Paul...(even though) her older daughter produced paperwork proving her mother was in the United States lawfully, the agents shackled Ms. Mehari and took her away." The story cites many like her who "were eventually released in Texas, leaving them to find their own way home."

I like it when I can do something to help people displaced by ICE and then after I do that thing I get to eat a pizza.

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call β€œsymbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.
