The Pollies love to talk about Brisbane being "world class" but are we?
This is a standard Dutch style protected intersection, it is best practice and "world class" but nowhere in Brisbane do we have one.
To be world class you don't just say it, you DO IT!

With the opening of Sydney's Oxford St Cycleway, Lord Mayor Clover Moore proves what a pollie with courage and conviction can achieve.
This is once again a reminder of how little progress Brisbane City Council made in recent times when compared with
City of Sydney!

As part of HSW application to change the site it is argued HSW doesn't need to upgrade the existing shared use path to segregated path as they will provide an unobstructed 6m wide shared use path.
This is how the existing shared use path was being used this morning!

Courier Mail journalist, Elodie Jakes, nervously joined the Story Bridge Active Travel Alliance bike bus recently.
She wrote: βI had a new-found appreciation for Brisbane cyclists, riding in this city is not easy and I can recognise how frustrating it is when a crucial bike path was taken away.β

We do not want Sylvan Rd, to be like the NBB where a few influential people stop a project that would benefit thousands!

Today's council meeting has now begun in which the petition calling for the sub standard HSW shared use path to be upgraded to a safer, higher amenity segregated path it will be presented.
As if on que, today HSW once again used the active transport corridor as a truck park!

Getting home from the Velo-City conference in GdaΕsk was not easy. Due to a railway strike I stranded in Utrecht. Left my luggage there and got an OV-Fiets, (a single speed, backpedal brake bike) and cycled the 55km in the burning sun at 32 degrees C.

Cyclists gather at Kangaroo Point. A sign says Bike Bus ahead please slow down.
Cyclists ride in the side lane over a no-trucks sign on the road.
It's a Brisbane tradition to thank the bus driver, so THANK YOU to the crew from Story Bridge Active Travel Alliance who safely steered the first commuter bike bus across the Story Bridge this morning. Well done to everyone who joined in.
The bus leaves Kangaroo Point at 8am each weekday morning.

1700 plus signatures will hopefully result in a very considered response coming from Lord Mayor Schrinner & his fellow LNP councillors.

We often hear from the Lord Mayor how clean & green Brisbane is, but is it?
Thanks to a visionary Mayor, Paris has turned air pollution around by focusing on people getting about on foot, bike & public transport.
Brisbane will never be clean & green until we change like Paris!

It is time BCC reallocate a small amount of road space to those crossing the bridge on foot and wheels!

Ultimately :
- Fueling a car, you have no choice but to support big business.
- Fueling a bike, you have a choice to support small business.
So next time a pollie claims they support small business think about
"are they really supporting small business or just saying they are!"
