Three potential candidates have submitted CVs with their website (great!) containing clearly LLM-generated blog posts.

Don’t do this. It shows an amazing lack of judgement.

Just one more… I think the difference between simple and complex systems for me is that Django/ActiveRecord love pretending that mutations happen in a single table.

Once they don’t, you get the question of where does that stuff live. And another small orchestration layer was our answer to that.

I replied in another thread but this sounds like exactly what we do too! Simple functions that orchestrate.

Codebases definitely over complicate this layer from past experience.

It really is just functions for us and I believe we’re better for it.

We do this even with Django, just a simple layer of functions that control common complex queries and another for mutations.

Because otherwise differences everywhere proliferate like bacteria and it’s impossible keeping the various interfaces synced in behaviour.

Prompt:

Analyse our Python code and write a Cursor rule to ensure that future LLM usage sticks to Python guidelines and style in our codebase. Look at what version of Python we use for instance, and pick up other common style and usage. Stick to language features itself.

Most developer CVs could be improved by switching from "here is a list of technologies I know" to "here are the features I am most proud of building".

When you work with shared spreadsheets at work you realise the power of the common database is actually in it's ability to stop people changing data rather than making it easy to add it.

AI cracks superbug problem in two days that took scientists years The lead researcher has told the BBC he was so astounded he assumed his computer had been hacked.

What about dots and boxes? That game where you draw a point grid and then each person takes turns putting horizontal or vertical lines between the dots until they claim a box.

The rise of LLMs will only cement TypeScript & Python’s position at the top of the β€œwhat is most useful and hireable in the widest sense” list.

I believe positioning and clarity of message. Substack led creator-first and never positioned itself as a free to read platform.

Medium instead stumbled with direction over monetisation.

The wider ecosystem was also very different in 2012 vs 2017, the creator economy is very much a thing now.

We’re looking at places LLMs can improve the product at the minute (who isn’t) and val.town has been invaluable with getting some working UIs going quickly to experiment.

Full recommend.

Not enough people are talking about val.town.

It has replaced pretty much all diagram/prototyping tools for me because you can just…build the thing and play with it to see if it works.
