I am not unaware of RL politics in my writing, especially since my Restless Hearts series uses many actual events from the espionage world. But it's not a main focus of it. The politics are the setting, not the story, and I'll ignore them in a heartbeat if the story needs me to. #PretendPanel

If you have a problem with any of these -- or with the fact that I'm Catholic -- then I wish you well inside that little echo chamber of yours. But I have no intention of changing my own viewpoints or behavior just because they're not liked. You want me to change? Show me a valid reason.

(3) Every word I write is my own. Every. Single. One. There is a huge difference between AI-assisted and AI-generated and I stay WELL on one side of that line. But if you're going to get hysterical about even a whiff of AI -- well, I just hope you don't use spelling/grammar check...

(2) Orson Scott Card and Kathy Tyers are both fantastic writers, and both have contributed back to the writing community as a whole. If you have problems with them outside of their writing, that's outside the scope of this account. It's also virtue signaling.

(1) I write a professional blog using my real name. Pen names are very common in those circumstances. It's not hard to find out who I am if you really need to know, but it does require making some effort. That's intentional.

So I'm guessing I got blocked for one of three reasons:

(1) I openly admit this account is a pen name.
(2) I recently cited Orson Scott Card and/or Kathy Tyers as influences.
(3) I recently admitted that yes, I do use AI when writing.

Here are rebuttals of all three:

Not sure why @hiriadunning.com is suddenly blocking me because this is just for writing. But whatever. Do I enjoy reading? Sometimes, if it doesn't include polemics or "red bad blue good" or vice-versa. Do I like writing? Again, not the red/blue stuff, but I do about specific issues. #PretendPanel

I didn't leave it up to them. I *told* them I was using a pen name, and that while it's no real secret, it's for a specific purpose. (In my case, to separate professional and creative writing.) If it's a safety issue for you or your family, it shouldn't be up to the publisher to decide.

Oh yeah. I would definitely use one under those circumstances. It'll protect both you and your family. (For the record: my own name here is a pen name.)

The theme for 2026 is consistency. I finished my first novel-length work in 2025. Now I want to see if I can replicate that, and then try a non-fan fiction novel as well.

Right now I'm pretty happy with my output settled around 225K words per year while having a full-time day job. #PretendPanel
