Too many interests, too little time. Literature, board games, podcasts. I learned to ride a bike last year, and I'm still proud. She/her.

One hundred percent! There are a lot of factors that go into UX and accessibility work, and also some really interesting folks who also think about beauty in accessibility work that’s super cool!

I think something else that might come into play here is thinking about will your audience understand abbreviations. But I feel like maybe part of what you want to convey based on your question is the aesthetics like cuteness and the feeling from those drawings. So maybe I’d look at alt text in this case like a creative writing exercise? Like in 1-2 sentences how would you paint the same picture with words?

You can definitely search β€œwriting good alt text” and get great advice about considering the context to help figure out what you want to convey, avoiding starting alt text with β€œPicture/Image of” (although sometimes describing the kind of image is important), and other tips.

Firstly, you’re totally right that good alt text is hard! And figuring the balance of conciseness with capturing the information or feeling of what is being described is something I talk with folks about a lot.

I’m a DGSU alumni who was part of the union push in 2017. So proud of the current union members for running such an amazing campaign.

I was really lucky to organize with wonderful people when I was a graduate student. And now so happy for the current graduate workers at my alma mater to have their labor union recognized. Wonderful day!

Graduate students vote in favor of unionization The vote marks the union as the first officially recognized graduate student union at a private university in the South and one of the largest unions in North Carolina.
