My daughter was almost 4 when diagnosed w/#DIPG (brainstem cancer). It’s the most lethal disease on earth (yes, really).

September is also Childhood Cancer Awareness Month which is also dear to me as I lost my 11 y/o cousin to DIPG in March ‘24. Funding for research was already low, but is being cut further, thanks to this administration.

ChadTough Defeat DIPG is a private organization started by families who lost their children to DIPG to fund research, spread awareness, and support DIPG families. With National Cancer Institute funding cut off, it is now the main source of funding for pediatric brain, cancer research and trials.

We are essentially shutting down research operations in my group, which is focused on treatments for pediatric brain cancer. I’m a well funded investigator, and there’s no choice. Science can’t function without the stability of NIH

Since her death, Sunnie’s parents started the SunnieStrong Foundation. They help DIPG families after their child dies. They also donate to A Cure Starts Now, which funds clinical trials. Sunnie was an ambassador for them.

DIPG has been a certain death sentence. To see some possible success with CAR-T therapy out of Dr Vitanza’s lab? 🥹 So many people have worked hard raising money for Dr Vitanza’s research, for more stories like this. More like my son’s former teammate who just got engaged thanks to CAR-T therapy. ❤️
