I was thinking about it a few gameweeks back, but perhaps the best (only?) way to effectively deal with them is to make assists for goals scored from outside the box worth only 1pt or 2pts.

Love these pre-GW overviews! Have you ever thought about doing a post-GW review with the point and OR distributions of the two groups?

A couple of random thoughts on my players in this game:

Surely Chelsea would be better off with Guiu up top and JP playing behind as a 10?

Anderson a bit more on the ball but maybe at the expense of his defcons. Net, I don't think there is enough extra attacking threat to outweigh defcon loss.

Went with the BB, projected point difference with later weeks marginal but I know my 15 are available right now. Rodon also fits other weeks I need a DEF (GW9, GW12). I now have cash to upgrade Anderson or Reijnders to 7.0m-7.5m bracket next GW.

Am likely to roll this week, but I have come through the international break with no injuries and could play the BB with a FT. If I do so, I'll do something like Tarkowski (away to MCI) to Rodon who has a good fixture this week (away to BUR) and fits nicely in the gaps I need a DEF.

Another green arrow. This was the first week I could have played BB (due to carrying Guiu and injured players at various times) but didn't like the fixtures. Will roll, JP and Gyokeres form not great but decent fixtures and no standout alternatives.

Bit of a chaotic week, so not much posting. Made the planned transfer a couple of nights ago, next few weeks should be rolls.

The 3 players I transferred in scored 68pts, the other 8 combined for 13pts! TC is the first chip I have used and it went as well as could be expected, also slightly ahead of the curve as I already have Sarr and Gabriel. Will do Sanchez to Raya this week.

Thinking about when I use the FH. I want a week where my strongest asset, Haaland, has a tough game, and a strong asset I don't have and can't easily fit in (Salah?, Palmer?) has a good one. Potentially, that could be GW12: Haaland has NEW(a), Salah has NFO(h), but time to see how things shake out.

That Gyokeres break is the sort of situation in which, back in Portugal, he would have got enough separation from (or even around) the defender to get a good shot off, but in the PL, he just isn't able to do that.

The referees in this league can not see the woods for the trees... two awful decisions today with the Fulham handball and Pope foul.

Now that the small matter of Haaland TC is done, we can move on to the important stuff - Anderson defcon watch.

Have Sarr's 11pts first on the bench, wouldn't mind it if Gyokeres sleeps in and misses the team bus.

At this point you have to wonder of the main reason Amorim is still in a job is that the club don't want to pay the rumoured £12m compensation he is due of he is fired within the first year of his contract. Guess we will find out on 1st November this year....

Just need Haaland not to get injured in the warmup, have Bruno as triple VC 😰

Will be very interesting to see the Haaland EO amongst different groups. Current Top 10k v historical best, AE64 v E64. I guess the current top 10k would own him already and can use the TC if they haven't done so already, whilst a lot of the content creators look to have to WC'ed in and can't TC.

Made the 3rd transfer for a hit as I realised I would be taking a hit to bring in Raya and Gabriel next week anyway. First chip played, with the TC, planning to WC13, BB14 and FH when needed. Nice to see Sarr back!

With negative Murillo news, I'm going to have to play Richards (home to LIV) or bring forward the Gabriel transfer for a hit. I'm leaning towards playing Richards - very high chance of defcon bonus means Gabriel needs a CS or goal to match, even if Richards concedes a couple. Will think about it...

Have the same contingency plan just incase we get late negative news. Don't want to be coming up with something on the spot with minutes to go...

With goals hard to find, we've fallen into a defensive (CS + defcon) meta, but I'm not sure there's any structural /tactical change to the game to make me think this big swing lasts all season. At some point, I'd expect things to move back towards the long-term average and attacking points to flow.

I think a big reason why this game is giving us such a hard time this season is the lack of goals, especially coming off the back of the 2 highest scoring PL seasons ever. Even though we've ticked up to 2.49 goals/game since this chart was made a week ago, we are still near the Mourinho era lows.

I disagree on the smaller pool, I think it's more a combination of attacking defenders having massively underperformed, and the best defcon defenders are hitting the target more than expected compared to their long-run averages. There will be times this season when the pendulum swings the other way.

Agree it's unlikely to be a problem but it if it is it'll be a big one, a bit of planning now to save some pre deadline panic. It's also different if you already own him, the wrinkle with the FH is that it cancels transfers made that week too, which makes it intriguing for those who just bought him.

If its the latter be honest with yourself over if there is enough benefit this week and take a look at the squad you revert to in GW7 too.
